The “Building Africa’s Digital Foundations Together” event opened this week in Abuja, setting the tone for a powerful conversation on the future of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) across Africa. The high-level programme, which runs from May 19 to 21, 2026, at the Abuja Continental Hotel, has seen Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) playing a central and leading role.

The pivotal three-day continental gathering brings together policymakers, technology leaders, development partners, and digital transformation experts from 11 African countries who are actively engaging in Abuja to forge a stronger digital future for the continent. The event is organised in collaboration with Co-Develop, Smart Africa, and MicroSave Consulting.
GBB CEO Welcomes Delegates, Shares Nigeria’s Digital Journey
The Managing Director and CEO of Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB), Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, welcomed delegates from 11 African countries and shared the story of GBB’s journey as Nigeria’s government digital infrastructure provider. He highlighted the company’s role in driving secure connectivity, cloud services, data hosting, and innovative digital transformation solutions for government and businesses.
Adeyanju said that sustained collaboration among African countries remains central to the continent’s drive toward digital transformation. He emphasised that Africa’s digital future will be built through collaboration, innovation, and shared purpose. The gathering aims to foster togetherness and strengthen the foundations for inclusive growth and a digitally connected continent.
SGF Representative Emphasises Collaboration and Innovation
Representing the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), a Permanent Secretary delivered goodwill remarks emphasising the importance of collaboration, innovation, and shared continental growth through digital transformation. The remarks underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that accelerate digital development across Nigeria and the wider African region.
Tour of GBB’s Digital Infrastructure
The day concluded with a guided tour of GBB’s digital infrastructure, showcasing platforms and capabilities that can support Digital Public Infrastructure not only in Nigeria but across Africa. The tour was designed to provide practical exposure to Nigeria’s digital infrastructure ecosystem.
According to Chidi Okpala, Head of Corporate Communications at GBB, the visit allowed delegates to better understand how shared ICT systems are supporting governance and service delivery in the country.
“This engagement will provide an opportunity for African stakeholders to not only discuss policy frameworks but also see firsthand how digital public infrastructure is being deployed to improve efficiency, connectivity and innovation in the public sector,” Okpala said.
He added that GBB’s hosting role reflects its growing importance in advancing digital governance and infrastructure development across the continent.
“Galaxy Backbone is increasingly positioned as a key enabler of trusted digital infrastructure, and this engagement reinforces that role within Nigeria and beyond,” he noted.
Call for Stronger Regional Partnerships
According to GBB, building secure, interoperable, and inclusive digital systems across Africa cannot be achieved in isolation. The company called for stronger regional partnerships to accelerate innovation and shared infrastructure development.
