In a strategic move to confront chronic traffic congestion in Lagos—Africa’s largest city with over 20 million residents and more than two million registered vehicles—the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has launched a new toll-free emergency hotline, 3367.

The initiative is designed to strengthen real-time traffic response, reduce gridlock, and deepen public participation in managing mobility challenges across the state.
A Simpler, Faster Way to Report Traffic Emergencies
According to LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, the four-digit short code replaces the agency’s older, longer contact numbers, making it easier and faster for road users to reach traffic officials.
The hotline is completely toll-free on MTN, Glo, and 9mobile networks, ensuring that cost does not discourage Lagosians from reporting traffic incidents that often trigger hours-long congestion.
Through 3367, commuters can report:
- Vehicular breakdowns
- Road traffic crashes
- Disabled articulated trucks and tankers
- Traffic obstructions and bottlenecks
- Other emergencies requiring urgent traffic intervention
By enabling quicker alerts and faster deployment of response teams, LASTMA says the hotline will help prevent minor incidents from escalating into citywide gridlock.
Critical Tool for a City Under Traffic Pressure
With Lagos recording over two million registered vehicles—and thousands more entering the road network daily—traffic congestion remains one of the city’s most pressing urban challenges.
LASTMA officials say timely information from the public is essential to managing traffic flow in such a densely populated megacity, where a single stalled truck can cripple major corridors for hours.
The 3367 hotline is expected to improve response times, enhance situational awareness, and support smarter traffic coordination across Lagos’ vast road network.
Boosting Transparency and Accountability
Beyond traffic emergencies, the hotline also provides residents with a credible channel to report the conduct and professionalism of LASTMA personnel on duty.
This feature, the agency says, reinforces transparency, accountability, and service excellence—key elements in building public trust and encouraging citizen cooperation in traffic management.
Inclusive, Multilingual Access for All Road Users
To remove communication barriers, callers can speak with hotline operators in English, Yoruba, or Pidgin English. LASTMA believes this multilingual approach will encourage wider usage of the platform and ensure that critical information is communicated clearly and accurately.
A Technology-Driven Approach to Urban Mobility
LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the launch as a landmark step toward a safer, more efficient, and citizen-centred transportation system.
“The 3367 toll-free short code represents a monumental stride in building a more responsive traffic management ecosystem for Lagos. It gives residents a direct, convenient, and cost-free way to report incidents that require immediate attention,” he said.
Bakare-Oki noted that the scale and complexity of Lagos as a megacity demand proactive, technology-enabled solutions capable of responding swiftly to evolving traffic challenges.
Supporting Lagos’ Fight Against Gridlock
LASTMA assured residents that all reports received via the hotline will be treated with professionalism, confidentiality, and urgency, and routed to the appropriate operational units for immediate action.
As Lagos continues to grapple with congestion pressures driven by population growth, vehicle density, and economic activity, officials say initiatives like the 3367 hotline are vital tools in improving road safety, reducing travel time, and sustaining productivity in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
