Governor Simon Bako Lalong has approved the appointment of Mr. Daser David as the Director General (DG) of Plateau State Information Technology Agency (PSITA). His appointment takes immediate effect according to an official statement released today in Jos, capital city of Plateau State in central Nigeria.

For many observers, Lalong’s new appointment reflects the government growing commitment to technology development as a way to alter the narratives coming out of Plateau for good, foster a new economy on ICT and drive the new engine for growth round young and dynamic citizens.

Daser, in his 30s, is a graduate of Biochemistry from the University of Jos, and has had a vertical career change to become a software engineer since leaving school to pursue his passion in IT leading to his establishment of the first innovation hub in northern Nigeria; Nhub.

“We have worked ceaselessly for an industry fostered on commitment to country and young people. This new challenge offers an opportunity for further service to drive that vision that Nigeria and indeed, Plateau State can become the bastion of a new economy. This is in line with the vision of Governor Lalong who has never shied away from investing in peace efforts and development of young people. I believe this is an invitation to work for the advancement of Plateau State particularly among young people in the tech ecosystem” – Daser  David

With Nhub, David has been able to build both a tech solution company and a skill acquisition space for thousands of young people veering into tech entrepreneurship.

David has consulted on IT for the Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Air Force including a number of public and private sector players.

David is a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on Technology & Creativity chaired by Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo. The council is set up to provide specific solutions to several technology and creativity challenges in the country and help foster the advancement of the country’s entertainment and technology ecosystems. It consists of some of Nigeria’s brightest minds in the media, entrepreneurship, technology and creativity.

In Jos, NHUb has helped to foster a steadily growing innovation industry that targets young people and how they can function in the 21st workplaces. Since 2014, the hub annually hosts the  “HackJos” conference and hackathon – software competition in northern Nigeria and has recorded the participation of notable bodies such as the Industrial Training Funds (ITF), and Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

PSITA was first created under former Governor David Jonah Jang but it lacked the legislative backing to operate as a legal entity. The State House of Assembly finally passed the law establishing the establishment months back to also ignite the governor’s search for a young, credible director general.
