Meta, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE), through its 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme and the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), alongside Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria (RAIN), has launched AI Academy Nigeria, a national initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s artificial intelligence talent pipeline and innovation ecosystem.
The initiative will provide Nigerian developers, students, startups and early-career professionals with access to practical AI education, hands-on technical training and startup support.

Designed to bridge the gap between learning and real-world application, AI Academy Nigeria will create pathways for participants to move from understanding artificial intelligence concepts to building functional products and market-ready solutions.
AI Academy Nigeria Targets Skills, Startups and Innovation
The new initiative will be delivered through three major streams: AI Skills Development, an AI Startup Pitchathon and an intensive Developer Bootcamp.
Together, the programmes are expected to broaden access to foundational and advanced AI skills while supporting entrepreneurs and developers working on AI-enabled products.
The partnership also reinforces Nigeria’s broader ambition to build a stronger technology talent base and position artificial intelligence as an important driver of innovation, entrepreneurship and digital economic growth.
Nigerian AI Startups to Pitch at GITEX Nigeria
One of the major components of AI Academy Nigeria is the AI Startup Pitchathon, which will provide early-stage Nigerian startups with an opportunity to showcase AI-driven solutions addressing real-world challenges.
Applications for the programme will close on August 21, 2026.
Following the application process, 10 startups using Meta’s AI technologies will be shortlisted to pitch their solutions at GITEX Nigeria on September 3, 2026.
Two winning startups will each receive $5,000 in cash funding and $2,000 in Meta advertising credits.
The winners will also receive an all-expense-paid opportunity to represent Nigeria at the AI Summit by Meta in Istanbul, Türkiye, scheduled for November 23–24, 2026.
The programme is expected to give promising Nigerian AI startups not only access to funding but also greater visibility and exposure to regional and international technology networks.
3MTT Community Gets Access to Free AI Courses
The AI Skills Development component will be open to the broader 3MTT community across Nigeria.
Participants will have access to curated courses covering topics ranging from the fundamentals of generative AI to the development of applications using Meta’s AI models.
The courses will be delivered through two formats: self-paced online learning and virtual instructor-led sessions.
Participants will be able to take courses covering areas such as:
- Building Generative AI Apps with Llama Professional Certificate
- Prompt Engineering with Llama 2 and Llama 3
- Introducing Multimodal Llama 3.2
- Generative AI in Data Analytics
- Generative AI in Social Media Marketing
- AI 101 curriculum developed by Startupbootcamp for Meta
The courses will be delivered through platforms including Coursera, DeepLearning.AI and DataCamp at no cost to participants.
The top 100 performers will also be eligible for scholarships towards paid Meta Blueprint certifications and could receive up to $5,000 in advertising credits.
Six-Week Developer Bootcamp to Build Market-Ready AI Products
The third component of AI Academy Nigeria is an intensive six-week Developer Bootcamp, to be delivered by RAIN.
The programme will bring together a selected cohort of developers and startups for hands-on AI development.
Participants will work towards building functional AI products and market-ready solutions with technical guidance and access to Meta’s network of AI experts.
The bootcamp is designed to place greater emphasis on practical application, enabling participants to move beyond theoretical knowledge and develop products that can potentially address commercial and social challenges.
Bosun Tijani: Partnership Will Build Globally Competitive AI Startups
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, said the partnership would help equip Nigerian developers, entrepreneurs and young professionals with practical artificial intelligence skills.
He said the initiative would also create pathways for innovation and support the development of globally competitive startups.
“Through this partnership, we are equipping developers, entrepreneurs, and young professionals with practical AI skills while creating pathways for innovation and globally competitive startups,” Tijani said.
According to him, the collaboration reflects the government’s commitment to building a thriving AI ecosystem through strategic public-private partnerships and strengthening Nigeria’s position in Africa’s digital economy.
Meta Sees Strong Potential in Nigeria’s AI Talent
Sade Dada, Head of Public Policy for Anglophone West Africa at Meta, said Nigeria already possesses some of Africa’s most dynamic AI talent.
However, she noted that many developers and founders require greater access to practical training, funding and platforms that can help them transform ideas into impactful solutions.
“Nigeria is home to some of Africa’s most dynamic AI talent. What many founders and developers need is greater access to practical training, funding and platforms to build impactful solutions,” Dada said.
She said AI Academy Nigeria was designed to provide developers with the skills required to build with artificial intelligence while giving promising startups a pathway to gain wider exposure.
RAIN Highlights Importance of Collaboration
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of RAIN, Dr Olushola Ayoola, said building Nigeria’s AI capacity would require coordinated action among government, technology companies, training institutions and the innovation ecosystem.
He said the partnership involving Meta, FMCIDE, 3MTT and RAIN demonstrated what could be achieved when institutions align around a shared objective.
“Building Nigeria’s AI capacity requires the kind of coordinated effort we are seeing here,” Ayoola said.
Linking Technical Skills to Entrepreneurship
Beyond training, the AI Academy Nigeria initiative is designed to connect skills development with practical application, entrepreneurship and opportunities in the digital economy.
For the 3MTT programme, the partnership supports its wider mandate of developing Nigeria’s technical talent pipeline.
The addition of startup funding opportunities, technical bootcamps, AI courses and international exposure also reflects a growing focus on helping Nigerian technology talent move from acquiring digital skills to building viable businesses and products.
As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly important across sectors, from finance and healthcare to agriculture, education and creative industries, initiatives such as AI Academy Nigeria could help expand the pool of Nigerians capable of developing and deploying AI-driven solutions.
The partnership also underscores the growing importance of collaboration between government and global technology companies in building the infrastructure, skills and innovation networks required for Nigeria to compete in the emerging AI economy.
Applications for the Startup Pitchathon are open until 21 August 2026. Full eligibility criteria and programme application details are available at aiacademynigerialaunch.splashthat.com
