Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, this week, in Imo State, eastern Nigeria, commissioned the Emergency Communications Centre (ECC) by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

With the launch of the ECC, Nigerians will be able to dial the 112 toll-free National Emergency Number in order to get help during emergencies from appropriate federal or state response agencies.

The event is happening just as the report by the Global Terrorism Index (GTI), once again, ranks Nigeria as the third most terrorised country in Africa. The ‘Global Terrorism Index’ is a yearly assessment report that measures the impact of terrorism across the world.

According to Pantami, the project is designed to enhance the security and safety of lives and property. It will allow citizens the benefits of accessing help during emergency situations in real-time.
