Signed on the sidelines of the recent colourful Okosi Iwopin Ajidagan 2026 Festival, the agreement represents a pivotal milestone. It marks a defining moment in both the cultural preservation and economic development journey of the Kingdom of Iwopin. It sets out a clear roadmap to elevate the annual Okosi boat regatta from a celebrated local heritage event into a globally recognised cultural tourism attraction.

Royal Vision: Reawakening Heritage for a Global Audience

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Oba Sunday Adeniyi Agbojo, the Liken of Iwopin Kingdom, described the partnership as a historic turning point for the community.

The monarch described the Okosi Festival as far more than an annual celebration. It is, he said, a living expression of the identity, resilience, and maritime heritage of the Iwopin people.

According to the monarch, the agreement represents a deliberate effort to ensure the festival is both preserved and amplified. This vision extends the festival’s reach to audiences well beyond the shores of Ogun State and Nigeria.

In an increasingly interconnected digital world, the Royal Father stressed the importance of projecting Iwopin’s heritage globally. He equally emphasized the need to safeguard its authenticity throughout this process. According to him, the initiative will allow the festival to evolve with modern technology. Crucially, this evolution will not erode its sacred traditions, stories, and communal values.

Culture as a Driver of Economic Opportunity

Beyond heritage preservation, Oba Agbojo highlighted the partnership’s economic significance. He described it as a pathway to youth empowerment, artisan development, and cultural tourism growth.

He explained that embracing digital innovation will enable the Kingdom to unlock new economic opportunities for its people. It will also position Iwopin as a premier cultural tourism destination. This, in turn, is expected to attract visitors, investors, and partners from across Nigeria and the global community.

Expressing confidence in DTML’s capabilities, the monarch noted that the company’s expertise in storytelling and technology makes it a fitting partner. He believes DTML can effectively translate Iwopin’s cultural wealth into sustainable socio-economic value.

He observed that globally, cultural festivals have evolved into powerful brands that attract tourism, investment, and international attention. According to him, the Okosi Festival possesses all the elements required for such transformation. A clear authenticity, rich cultural expression, and strong communal identity.

Lawani explained that DTML’s role is to package and project this authenticity through modern media and digital platforms in a way that resonates with global audiences without diluting the festival’s essence. He added that digitising the festival aligns with global trends in cultural consumption, where audiences increasingly experience heritage through immersive digital storytelling.

Technology as a Catalyst for Cultural Transformation

Providing strategic insight into the partnership, Shina Badaru, Founder and Chairman of DTML, described the agreement as a bold step in redefining how culture is preserved and promoted in the digital age.

He explained that the Okosi Iwopin project aligns with DTML’s Nigeria Heritage Initiative. This initiative seeks to deploy technology in amplifying Nigeria’s unique cultural assets. As part of this effort, DTML has acquired the premium domain: www.okosiiwopin.ng

The platform will serve as the digital home of the annual Okosi Ajidagan Festival. It will drive storytelling, tourism promotion, partnerships, media engagement, and innovative digital experiences.

According to Badaru, DTML will deploy a multi-layered strategy to bring the festival to global audiences. The strategy includes immersive multimedia content, live streaming, digital archiving, and international marketing. This approach ensures the Okosi Festival can be experienced both physically and digitally by people around the world.

Building a Sustainable Cultural Economy

DTML noted that the initiative goes beyond visibility to deliver measurable community impact. Through strategic partnerships, sponsorships, and global media engagement, the project aims to build a sustainable cultural economy that supports local enterprises and attracts long-term investment.

A key pillar of the programme, Badaru added, is capacity building—empowering local youth with skills in digital media, content creation, and event technology to ensure inclusive growth and community ownership of the transformation.

Positioning Okosi Iwopin on the Global Stage

Under the agreement, DTML becomes the Exclusive Strategic Partner for the digitalisation and promotion of the Okosi Festival, while the Iwopin Kingdom retains cultural stewardship and institutional leadership.

very aspect of the Okosi Festival will be systematically documented and preserved for future generations. This includes everything from the iconic boat regatta to its rich cultural expressions. Through advanced media production and strategic international partnerships, these elements will be showcased to audiences around the world.

A New Era for Cultural Heritage in Nigeria

The partnership between the Kingdom of Iwopin and DTML reflects a broader shift in Nigeria’s approach to cultural heritage—from preservation in isolation to promotion through innovation. It offers a replicable model for other communities seeking to harness technology to unlock cultural and economic value while safeguarding tradition.

With the combined strength of traditional authority, creative excellence, and digital innovation, the Okosi Festival is poised to emerge as a symbol of cultural pride, economic opportunity, and global recognition.

As Oba Agbojo aptly concluded: “The world will hear our story. The world will see our culture. And the world will know Iwopin.”
