Oladele Ayanbadejo, the Managing Director of Interconnect Clearing House, has emphasized the pivotal role of robust partnerships while highlighting his company’s commitment to facilitating mobile number porting and addressing regulatory complexities.

He also spoke on continuous need for ongoing regulatory support to navigate challenges within Nigeria’s telecom sector effectively.

During an interview with IT Edge News in Lagos, Ayanbadejo shed light on Interconnect Clearing House’s strategies for ensuring data privacy compliance and navigating Nigeria’s regulatory landscape.

Data Privacy Compliance

Ayanbadejo reiterated Interconnect Clearing House’s unwavering adherence to data protection laws, affirming, “We are fully compliant with the Nigerian Data Protection Act 2023.” He emphasized the importance of continuous staff training to maintain compliance and underscored the significance of building trust with stakeholders through stringent data protection measures.

Partnerships and Collaborations

Highlighting the value of partnerships, Ayanbadejo emphasized Interconnect Clearing House’s longstanding relationships with Nigerian telecom operators since its inception in 2004. He also highlighted international collaborations and the company’s exclusive license for mobile number portability in Nigeria, stating, “We collaborate with international partners to facilitate voice traffic into Nigeria.”

Regarding mobile number portability, Ayanbadejo elucidated its importance in enabling users to retain their numbers when switching operators. He reiterated Interconnect Clearing House’s role as the sole licensee for mobile number porting in Nigeria and stressed the need for heightened public awareness of this service.

Regulatory Challenges

Acknowledging regulatory hurdles, Ayanbadejo attributed them to evolving regulations within the sector. He emphasized the company’s proactive efforts to overcome these challenges through stakeholder engagement and the development of internal systems to manage regulatory risks effectively. “Some of the main challenges we have faced include complex and changing regulations that can be very difficult to keep up with,” he noted.

Moreover, Ayanbadejo reaffirmed Interconnect Clearing House’s commitment to transparency and neutrality, stating, “We operate without subscribers and maintain neutrality to ensure fairness in Nigeria’s telecom sector.”

He underscored the company’s dedication to fostering a level playing field for all stakeholders.
