Edo Sate 2013 technology day holds in September

Edo State in mid-western part of Nigeria and one of its 36 states is to hold its annual Edo Sate Technology Day. This year’s theme is “Fostering Governance with Technology”. It is designed to highlight the Edo State’s government’s plans and incentives to position the oil rich state as the hub for technology in the country of 160 million people touted as Africa’s fastest growing technology marketplace.

Part of event’s programmes includes the formal launch of the Edo State Open Data Portal. Major global and local technology vendors and solution providers are billed to exhibit their products and services at the flagship technology event holding Thursday, 12th and Friday, 13th September, 2013  from 10.00 a.m. at the Emporium, J.B. Estate, Off Boundary Road, Benin City.

It may interest you to note that since 2010, the Edo State Technology Day has served as the premium stakeholder platform that brings together policy makers, industry players, technology experts, innovators and investors, to share ideas and experiences. It also served as a forum for exploring opportunities and strategies for the utilization of technology and charting the way forward on how best to mainstream technology in governance and its development process.

“Governors Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State and Babatunde Fashiola (SAN) of Lagos State had graced the events in the past, as part of the efforts to broaden on-going conversation on mainstreaming technology in governance,” said Barr. Patrick Obahiagbon, Chief of Staff to the Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, in an official statement to announce preparations for the event.

“Our media partners CNBC Africa will cover the discussion sessions featuring technology experts and key sector players who will speak on four topics: “Broadband Delivery and Management in Nigeria”; “Education at the Brink of Digital Revolution”; “Security Implications of Big Data”; and “Actualizing a Workable National IT Policy,” added Obahiagbon.

The exhibition part is expected to feature Lagos, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti states as well as member-states of the BRACED Commission including Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers and Delta.  They will exhibit and share their experiences on the implementation of e-governance in their various states. Participants may register online at http://www.edotechnologyday.com.
