Galaxy Backbone Marks 20 Years with Strategic Rebranding

Galaxy Backbone Limited has unveiled a refreshed corporate identity and a commemorative 20th-anniversary logo, signalling a decisive shift from a traditional government ICT infrastructure provider to a more agile, innovation-driven digital transformation enabler.

The rebrand underscores the organisation’s ambition to play a more proactive role in Nigeria’s fast-growing digital economy, serving government, institutions and the private sector.

The new brand identity was launched in Abuja during the organisation’s week-long 20th-anniversary celebrations and its inaugural Digital Transformation Summit.
Re-engineering for Nigeria’s Digital Future
The refreshed identity reflects a broader corporate re-engineering anchored on positioning Galaxy Backbone as a central platform for digital governance, cloud services and national digital infrastructure. Key milestones highlighted during the anniversary include:
- Smart Digital Economy Roadmap: A new strategy aimed at accelerating Nigeria’s digital transformation and expanding innovation across sectors.
- National Fibre Expansion: Deployment of fibre-optic infrastructure across nearly 30 states, strengthening connectivity and data hosting for public institutions.
- Cloud and Data Centre Services: Expansion of the 1Government Cloud platform, delivering scalable and secure cloud services to both public and private sector users.
Together, these initiatives position Galaxy Backbone to be more commercially responsive and strategically relevant within Nigeria’s digital economy.
FG Charges Galaxy Backbone to Lead Next Phase of Digital Transformation
Speaking at the anniversary celebration and awards ceremony, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, urged Galaxy Backbone to take the lead in Nigeria’s next phase of digital transformation. Represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr Ibrahim Kana, Akume described the organisation as a key driver of modern governance, cybersecurity and digital service delivery.
He noted that Galaxy Backbone has evolved into Nigeria’s foremost provider of secure government connectivity, cloud infrastructure and shared ICT services—enhancing efficiency, transparency and collaboration across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
Embracing Emerging Technologies
Akume emphasised that digital transformation is now a necessity for economic growth and effective governance, calling on Galaxy Backbone to deepen its engagement in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, blockchain and big data analytics.
According to him, the next phase of Nigeria’s digital journey will demand stronger cybersecurity, broader broadband infrastructure and deeper stakeholder collaboration.
From Vision to Digital Backbone
In his remarks, the Managing Director/CEO, Ibrahim Adepoju Adeyanju, said the organisation was founded on a bold vision to connect government institutions and make digital infrastructure a strategic national asset.
“Twenty years ago, a bold idea was born—that government could be more connected and that technology could transform governance,” Adeyanju said,
He noted that Galaxy Backbone has grown into a critical pillar of Nigeria’s digital ecosystem. He credited the organisation’s progress to sustained government support, strategic partnerships and the dedication of its workforce, which he described as its greatest strength.
States Signal Deeper Collaboration
The Jigawa State Government also pledged to strengthen collaboration with Galaxy Backbone as Nigeria advances its digital transformation agenda. Represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ibrahim Umar Gantsa, Governor Umar Namadi noted that Jigawa State played an early role in the concept that later evolved into Galaxy Backbone and remains committed to digital innovation and technology-driven governance.
Entering a New Growth Phase
Established in 2006 to provide shared ICT infrastructure for government institutions, Galaxy Backbone says the new corporate identity marks the beginning of a new growth phase—one focused on innovation, digital sovereignty, and deeper participation in Nigeria’s burgeoning digital economy.
