Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd, Nigeria’s International Telecommunications (ITU) Administration in the Ministry of Communication and ITU will be hosting the 15th ITU Resolution 609 Consultation Meeting this Tuesday October 2-5, 2018 in Abuja, Nigeria.
A statement signed by NIGCOMSAT’s spokesman Adamu Idirs said the event will be declared open by Nigeria’s Minister of Communications Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu who oversees Nigeria’s overall ITU Administration. Shittu will be assisted by the Chairman of NIGCOMSAT, Chief George Moghalu, and other board members of NIGCOMSAT.
The Technical Meeting known as 15th Resolution 609 Consultation Meeting was initiated at the World Radiocommunication Conference, Geneva 2003 (WRC-003) and adopted as Resolution 609 (Rev.WRC-07), is a Consultation Meetings between administrations operating or planning to operate systems in the aeronautical radionavigation service (ARNS) and system in the radionavigational satellite service (RNSS) in the 1164-1215MHz frequency band which holds periodic and regular meetings to confirm that the aggregate emissions for all operational and planned systems in that band does not exceed the radio regulatory limit that protects in-band ARNS systems, and also to confirm relevant technical and administrative parameters for those operational and planned RNSS system.
Rolling out the four day planned program of events, the Vice-Convener Dr. Lasisi Salami Lawal, said Nigeria has been an active participant in the forum considering its satellite-based Augmentation System (SBAS) known as Nigerian Satellite Augmentation System (NSAS) managed and operated by the Nigerian Communication Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd as a Navigational overlay Service (NOS) provider under the leadership of the Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer, Abimbola Alale as the Host for the event
According to Dr. Lawal, the event will provide Nigerian experts the opportunity to share various approaches and strategies to key into enormous gains and opportunities of Radio Navigation Satellite Systems.
‘Nigeria’s NOS is poised to fill up the gap for an augmentation system in African continent for aviation and non-aviation sectors especially as it concerns tracking and monitoring of fixed and mobile assets including public safety (i.e Maritime, Road and Rail Transportation, Inland Waterways, Survey, Oil and Gas sector, Civil Engineering, Precision Agriculture, Geographic Information System, Fleet Management) amongst others’.
Dr. Lawal stated that Nigeria is hosting for the first time, the 15th ITU Resolution 609 Consultation Meeting to reinstate our commitment in Africa under the directorship and purposeful leadership of the Executive Director, Engineering Services, NIGCOMSAT Ltd Mr. Kazeem Kolawole Raji.
The event is co-organized and supported by Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force and the Defense Space Administration.
Prominent amongst other things to be feature during the Technical Meeting is Radionavigation Satellite Service (RNSS) symposium covering Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)/SBAS status, NSAS owned and operated by the Nigeria, GPS owned and operated by the USA, Galileo owned and operated by EUROPE, GLONASS owned and operated by Russia and COMPASS (BEIDOU) owned and operated by China including Indian, Japanese and Algerian regional systems.
The symposium will also feature RNSS Spectrum Management, Interference in RNSS and ITU fillings Preparation.
Countries that have indicated significant interest to participate include France, Russia, India, Switzerland, Europe, Japan and Algeria.
