Tétris Design and Build South Africa has formalised a new executive team to lead the growth and future success of the global interior architecture firm in its Sub-Saharan African operations. As the company has expanded, highly respected management teams have been leading the day-to-day business and built a high-performance culture of exceptional delivery and professionalism.  

Emma Luyt the founder of Tétris seven years ago has moved into a position on the global Tétris board and will now manage a Tétris hub that includes the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Brazil, Morocco, and South Africa.  

Sarene Nel, who has been with the company since its inception, and is currently the Operations Director, is the new Managing Director. She will be supported by an Executive Committee consisting of: Ryan O Donovan, Project Management Director; Mpho Mosotho, Operations Director; Maggie Weber; Design Director; and  Steven Fish; Furniture Solutions Director.  

Luyt will continue working from the Tétris Johannesburg office alongside the company’s Executive Committee to realise the growth potential in the workplace, design, and build services that the company delivers for its clients.

Commenting on her appointment as Managing Director, Nel says Tétris’ growth in workplace strategy to design and ultimately build, together with the size and scale of new projects the company has recently completed is remarkable. “It’s incredible to reflect back on how much we have achieved. I think the expansion and increased role in Tétris global strategy and operations by Emma is a reflection on our success to date within the group. My challenge as a leader now, is to consolidate our position in the South African market while exploring new opportunities for improved delivery for clients.”

Nel adds she is looking forward to the opportunities and challenges of the built environment’s eventual post-pandemic recovery. “I believe we have a challenging but exciting year ahead. People are concerned about their wellbeing and employers will have to demonstrate that they are creating spaces that accommodate different needs and different work styles. The role of design in creating positive workplace cultures for companies is critical as we will be fighting for future talent, even in our own business. As Tétris prepares to move to new offices, conversations about our new space include increased focus on demonstrable sustainability measures, improved flexibility in how people collaborate and connect with colleagues and clients, or split away to do quieter, more focused work.”

In addition to cementing Tétris’ position as leaders in delivering outstanding design and build services in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, Nel says a major focus area will be empowering the Tétris team to shape the workplace of the future. “While I have learnt over the last two years to remain resilient and adaptable to change, the core ingredient of Tétris that stands out is the incredible people in our teams. It’s our ‘secret sauce’ and one that I am committed to growing as we continue building a leading presence in interior design and build.”
