The Honourable Minister of Communications, Barr Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu has inaugurated the new governing board of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). The seven-man governing board led by Prof Adeolu Akande as chairman, is charged with the responsibility of formulating policies for the management of the agency.

Other board members are Hon. Kazeem Salako, Dr Lawal Bello Moriki, Hajia Binta Mohammed, Mr. Uche Onwude, Rt. Hon Abdullai Bello and Sen J.J. Akpanunudoedehe. NITDA’s board was dissolved about two years ago by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The demands for communication services across the world will continue to rise globally. We in Nigeria must be able to put the right administrative structures in place to live up to the expectations of the sector,” said communications minister.

Also inaugurated by the minister were the governing boards of Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Limited and Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST).

The chairperson for NIPOST is Mr. Maimuna Yahaya Abubakar, The board members are Mr. Tunde Agbabiaka and  Mr. Mainasara  Sani.  NIGCOMSAT’s new board is led by Chief George Moghalu. Other members are Zainab Ibrahim Jabo and Mr. Chidi Okonji,

NITDA’s new board chairman comes with extensive work experience across the private and public sectors including academic and government circles. Akande, a Professor of Political Science, and former Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State in 2011, is vying to be governor of Oyo State in 2019. A former lecturer at the University of Ibadan and Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, Akande’s career also spanned the media world as a journalist, reporter, editor and editor-in-chief at Nigerian Tribune, The Punch Newspapers and Omega Weekly Magazine among others.

Between 2001 and 2003, he worked as  communication strategist within the presidency as ‎Deputy Chief Press Secretary ‎to the  President, Federal Republic of Nigeria; and‎ Special Assistant (Research & Communications Strategies) to the President, ‎Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was also the Chairman, ‎Print Media Sub-Committee of the ‎APC Presidential Campaign Organisation.
