A shakeup is expected across agencies under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy as Dr Bosun Tijani begins work as minister, knowledgeable sources told IT Edge News in Abuja.

This week, President Bola Tinubu approved the appointment of Mrs. Bisoye Coker-Odusote as the acting Director-General/CEO of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). She is expected to continue as the substantive CEO of NIMC beginning November 24, 2023 in what many has predicted as the start of change in leadership for many of the agencies under the ministry which also has supervisory role over NIMC.

Agencies under ministry

There are seven agencies under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy led by Dr Tijani.

They include:

  • Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC (Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF)
  • National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA)
  • Galaxy Backbone
  • Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat)
  • Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST)
  • National Identity Management Commission (NIMC)
  • Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC)

“Government recognises the need to overhaul the entire leadership structure across these agencies to make its vision and goal achievable. There is a need to have smart, globally focused leaders in tune with the realities of that sector which is very dear to the president,” said a senior member of the government in Abuja.

Coming to Office?

IT Edge News learnt some of the new faces expected to assume leadership positions may include:

Tola Odeyemi who has worked at senior government functionary at both state and federal levels on strategy development; implementation, policy making, and operations. Odeyemi, who has she served as the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Environmental Trust Fund, and simultaneously served as the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos state Governor on the Public Utilities Monitoring and Assurance Unit (PUMAU), works as the Head of Public Policy for West Africa at Uber Technologies.

Idris Alubankudi Saliu, Co-Founder at UK-based Ceviant and Arca (two independent fintech) is graduate of Columbia University, New York, where he obtained a BSc. in Computer Science. Saliu also worked at the Interswitch Group as its Chief Technical Officer.
