Phase3 has deployed free fibre broadband to International Centre for Islamic Culture and Education (ICICE) as well as the institution’s mosque and academy in Wuse II, Abuja.

Executive Chairman, Phase3 – Mr. Stanley Jegede, inaugurated the service at the weekend as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) at a ceremony witnessed by Minister, of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami; Group Managing Director NNPC, Mele Kolo Kyari; Managing Director, National Petroleum Telecommunications Limited, Mr. Sanusi Yerima; senior officials and representatives of Minister of Power, Sale Mamman and Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mr. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi.

Others at the ceremony are Chairman ICICE Board of Trustees, Professor Ibrahim Sulaiman; Chairman Al-Noor Academy Board of Directors, Dr Mohammed Dada; Ag. Director General & Director Arts Counseling and Culture, Sheikh Abdulfattah Adeyemi; and Chief Imam, ICICE Al-Noor Mosque, Sheikh Mahamat Saleh.  

According to Phase, this CSR initiative rides on the company’s commitment to using its telecom and technology prowess for sustainable good. Through education, tech skill building and free smart connectivity programmes as goal specific vehicles for empowering identified communities and institutions.

The two hour programme which held at Al-Noor Academy was jointly coordinated by Phase3 and ICICE as well as had industry leaders, partners, stakeholders, ICICE board leadership accompanied by management team, and distinguished guests in attendance;

Dr. Pantami, in his keynote address, lauded the initiative as one that is well aligned with FG digital economy policies and NBP 2020 – 2025 designed to encourage and foster more ICT collaborations for sustainable access to the internet and broadband services as well as digital literacy and skill building for national development including greater economic inclusion of the unserved and the underserved in our communities.

He enjoined ICICE as an institution of repute to maximize the opportunity Phase3 free fibre broadband deployment provides to the centre, academy as well as Masjid for learning, research and training while imbibing a consistent maintenance culture that the access provisioned requires for optimal performance.        

According to the ICICE and Al-Noor Academy board chairs, Professor Ibrahim Sulaiman, and Dr Mohammed Dada as well as Ag. Director General, Sheikh Abdulfattah Adeyemi; the broadband fibre solution donated freely by Phase3 has helped to address the hitherto connectivity challenges faced by the centre which had limited access to its numerous programmes and other resources within its facilities or remotely. With the free broadband access, the centre is now able to maintain an ICT compliance standard as well as technology savvy that keeps its learning, training, assistance, inter-faith dialogue and counseling programmes at par with global counterparts.

Jegede affirmed that Phase3 ” remains committed to helping the institution continue to achieve its operational goals and optimize its formal learning, training and cultural programmes through seamless connectivity solutions”. Beyond this, Phase3 is also poised to support ICICE with its infrastructure layered technology solutions including cloud and cyber security solutions that will enhance the centre’s virtual lectures, video conferencing and sundry activities.
