With the rise of 4K video content (OTT platforms, live sports, connected TVs, cloud gaming), network performance can no longer be reduced to simple download speed.

nPerf, a global specialist in network performance measurement, has announced the evolution of its streaming test with the integration of 2160p (4K) resolution across all its platforms.

Five European countries lead the global ranking

“In the 4K era, measuring download speed alone no longer makes sense. What truly matters is the real experience lived by the user. A good speed does not guarantee smooth playback, consistent 4K quality, or the absence of buffering. With 4K streaming analysis, we are evolving network performance measurement toward indicators that are far more representative of today’s usage,” says nPerf’s CTO.

With the growing adoption of high-definition screens and premium content, 4K has become one of the most demanding use cases for both fixed and mobile networks. The integration of 2160p therefore enables a more precise analysis of networks’ ability to support these new standards.

The test now focuses on formats that are actually used today:

  • 720p (HD Ready)
  • 1080p (Full HD)
  • 2160p (4K / UHD)

A faster test, without compromising reliability

This evolution also introduces a new accelerated “Fast Forward” mode for 720p and 1080p resolutions. It reduces the total test duration by half while maintaining the same level of accuracy and representativeness. For more information, read our article.

Available on all platforms

The new 4K streaming test is now available across all nPerf applications: Android, iOS, and Desktop.
