A four-day conference of global experts in Abuja, ICEGOV 2025 held under the patronage of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It was a convergence for rigorous debates, research presentations, and strategic partnerships. NITDA noted that the event directly supports the President’s priority of accelerating economic diversification through industrialisation and digitisation.
Nigeria Takes Centre Stage in Global Digital Governance
Founded in 2007 by the United Nations University (UNU-EGOV), ICEGOV brings together academia, industry leaders, civil society, development institutions, and government actors to shape the future of electronic governance.
This year’s edition firmly positioned Nigeria as a rising force in digital governance research and technological innovation.
- 151 scientific papers submitted
- 308 authors from 33 countries
- 68% participation from emerging economies
- Nigeria recorded the highest number of contributors with 102 authors, followed by Brazil, India, Portugal, and Greece.
NITDA said Nigeria’s strong participation reflects over a decade of investments in research development, digital talent cultivation, and ecosystem strengthening — efforts that are now earning global recognition.
Nigeria Wins Top Research Award
The conference honoured outstanding research through its signature Best Paper Awards.
Nigeria’s Robert Ifeonu of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) won the top award in the Research category for his paper:
“Micro-Transformation Framework for Public Sector Innovation: Catalysing Resilient, Outcome-Driven Digital Governance.”
NITDA described this as clear evidence of Nigeria’s growing leadership in developing home-grown digital governance frameworks capable of driving socio-economic transformation.
UNU-EGOV Commends NITDA for Leadership and Strategic Partnership
In her closing remarks, Professor Delfina Soares, Director of UNU-EGOV, praised NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, for his vision and early endorsement, which enabled Nigeria to host ICEGOV 2025 successfully.
She highlighted that the strong local partnerships and sponsorships secured by NITDA enhanced the event’s global value and strengthened Africa’s role in digital governance research.
Strategic and Economic Impact for Nigeria
NITDA stated that hosting ICEGOV 2025 delivered long-term value for Nigeria, including:
- Strengthening its global reputation as a digital innovation hub
- Attracting new research collaborations and investment commitments
- Enhancing digital capacity-building programmes
- Advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda
- Boosting public sector efficiency through shared knowledge and tools
According to the Agency, insights from the conference will accelerate improved service delivery, enhance regulatory frameworks and deepen the country’s knowledge-driven economy.
