Nigeria’s mobile internet market recorded an average performance score of 27,732 nPoints in 2025, reflecting steady improvements and strong competition among leading operators, according to the 2025 nPerf Barometer.

The annual report highlights intense rivalry between MTN, Airtel, and Globacom (Glo), with each operator delivering distinct strengths across key performance indicators such as speed, latency, browsing, and video streaming.

MTN Emerges as Nigeria’s Mobile Internet Leader in 2025

MTN Nigeria secured the top position with 37,106 nPoints, establishing itself as the country’s best-performing mobile internet provider for 2025.

The operator dominated all measured indicators, delivering the fastest download and upload speeds in the market. MTN recorded an average download speed of 18.7 Mbps and an upload speed of 8.7 Mbps, enabling smooth HD streaming, fast downloads, and reliable video conferencing.

MTN also led in web browsing performance (35.8%) and video streaming quality (67.0%), ensuring a seamless experience for data-intensive applications. In the 4G segment, MTN maintained a clear leadership position nationwide.

Airtel Secures Second Position with Competitive Performance

Airtel Nigeria ranked second with 25,614 nPoints, delivering solid and consistent performance across key metrics.

The operator achieved an average download speed of 10.6 Mbps and an upload speed of 4.7 Mbps, supporting dependable video calls, content sharing, and everyday internet use. Airtel also demonstrated strong video streaming performance at 62.5%, ranking second in this category and providing users with reliable content delivery.

Glo Ranks Third, Leads on Latency Performance

Globacom (Glo) completed the top three with 20,475 nPoints, standing out for its industry-best latency of 121.8 milliseconds—a critical advantage for real-time communications such as online gaming and voice calls.

Glo also ranked second in browsing performance (29.9%), ensuring efficient and responsive web navigation for subscribers.

Strong Competition Benefits Nigerian Mobile Internet Users

The report notes that MTN’s balanced excellence across all indicators reinforces its leadership, while Airtel and Glo continue to offer competitive alternatives with differentiated strengths. As a result, Nigerian consumers benefit from improving network quality, particularly for streaming, browsing, and other high-data services.
