Morocco Positions Itself at the Heart of Africa’s Digital Future
Morocco is advancing an ambitious vision for a competitive, inclusive, and sustainable African digital economy, accelerating cross-continental artificial intelligence (AI) innovation as the global tech ecosystem converges in Marrakech next week.

The 4th edition of GITEX AFRICA Morocco** will run from 7–9 April 2026, bringing together 1,450+ exhibiting companies and startups and participants from over 130 countries. The 2026 edition marks a significant expansion, welcoming first-time participation from countries including Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Guinea, Hungary, Luxembourg, Thailand, and Zambia.
High-Level Patronage and Strong Institutional Backing
Held under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI and under the authority of Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, the event is hosted by the Digital Development Agency and organised by KAOUN International.
GITEX AFRICA Morocco has evolved into a pan-African collaboration platform where global innovation intersects with African digital sovereignty, moving beyond dialogue to real-world implementation of scalable, high-impact technologies.
AI as a Catalyst for Africa’s Economic Transformation
With AI projected to contribute US$1.2 trillion to Africa’s economy by 2030, the 2026 edition focuses on unlocking shared innovation potential, deepening continental integration, and positioning Africa as a rising force in global technology leadership.
Addressing journalists at the official press preview were Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Morocco’s Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition and Administration Reform; Amine El Mezouaghi, Director General of the Digital Development Agency; and Trixie LohMirmand, CEO of GITEX AFRICA Morocco.
Seghrouchni described AI as a “structuring opportunity” for Africa, driven by youthful talent, expanding innovation ecosystems, and growing digital infrastructure investments. She said Morocco aims to make AI a pillar of digital sovereignty, competitiveness, and territorial inclusion through talent development, stronger technological capacity, and responsible innovation.
Morocco’s Rise as a Strategic Technology Hub
El Mezouaghi noted that GITEX AFRICA Morocco reflects the Kingdom’s ambition to position itself as a strategic technology gateway for Africa, enabling the convergence of talent, capital, and innovation. He emphasised the event’s role in nurturing African digital champions and accelerating the continent’s sustainable integration into the global digital economy.
LohMirmand added that in just four years, GITEX AFRICA has transformed from a bold launch into a powerful engine of global relevance, attracting international investors, companies, and cross-border partnerships that are reshaping Morocco’s innovation landscape.
Unlocking Africa’s Next Breakout Startups
Building on a strong 2025 that saw African startup funding reach US$3.9 billion, GITEX AFRICA Morocco 2026 will host North Star Africa, the continent’s largest startup showcase. Over 800 startups will pitch, scale, and connect with more than 400 global investors from 40+ countries, collectively managing US$350 billion in assets.
In partnership with the Digital Development Agency, the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform is also expanding the “Morocco 300” initiative, increasing participation by 50 per cent from the previous year to accelerate the globalisation of local innovators.
Key Sectors Shaping Africa’s Digital Economy
The 2026 programme introduces new and expanded sector showcases reflecting Africa’s fastest-growing priorities, including:
- Data Centre Intelligent Infrastructure
- Fintech and the Future of Finance, covering mobile money, AI-driven inclusion, and cross-border payments
- Future Mobility Park, featuring electric, autonomous, and connected transport
- Sports Tech, highlighting smart venues and next-generation fan engagement
Cybersecurity also takes centre stage, with a dedicated programme delivered in partnership with DGSSI. The Strategic Digital Defence AI Readiness (STAR) Summit will focus on protecting critical infrastructure from advanced AI-driven threats.
