The appointment comes weeks after his exit from Africa Data Centres, where he led West African operations and played a pivotal role in expanding regional digital infrastructure.
Repositioning UniCloud Africa as an Industry Leader
Ranganath’s immediate priority is to reposition UniCloud Africa as a leading provider of sovereign cloud and next-generation AI infrastructure across the continent.
Announcing his new role, he emphasised a strong focus on scaling innovation, operational excellence, and high-impact partnerships to accelerate the company’s growth trajectory.
“UniCloud sits at the epicentre of Africa’s cloud evolution. We are committed to deploying 100% sovereign infrastructure across the continent,” he stated.
He added that his leadership will centre on:
- Driving high-growth strategic partnerships
- Expanding cloud capacity across key African markets
- Building resilient, sustainable, and future-ready infrastructure
- Supporting enterprises and governments transitioning to digital platforms
Building Africa’s Sovereign Cloud Ecosystem
UniCloud Africa Limited, launched in October 2025, is designed to address the challenges of high latency and costs associated with offshore cloud services by enabling data to be hosted and processed within Africa.
The company has already established operations in six countries:
- Nigeria (Headquarters and main hub in Lagos)
- Ghana
- South Africa
- Zambia
- Senegal
- Mozambique
Its infrastructure is supported through strategic partnerships with companies such as Zadara and WIOCC, among others.
Driving Innovation Amid Africa’s Cloud Boom
Ranganath’s appointment comes at a time when Africa’s cloud and data infrastructure market is entering a high-growth phase. It is projected to expand from approximately $2.2 billion in 2026 to over $4.3 billion by 2031.
He noted that emerging trends including AI and energy transition will shape the next phase of Africa’s digital evolution.
“While the challenges from AI integration to the green energy transition are immense, the opportunities are greater. We aim to redefine the digital frontier and accelerate Africa’s digital ecosystem,” he said.
Track Record of Digital Infrastructure Expansion
During his more than five-year tenure at Africa Data Centres, Ranganath led significant expansion efforts across West Africa. He helped to strengthen infrastructure capacity in Nigeria and neighbouring markets.
Reflecting on his previous role, he stated:
“We didn’t just build data centres; we built the foundation for West Africa’s digital future.”
His leadership has also been recognised by IT Edge News.Africa, where he was named among the 50 Most Valuable Personalities in Nigeria’s Digital Economy in both 2024 and 2025.
Industry Confidence in New Leadership
Commenting on the appointment, Co-founder and outgoing CEO, Ladi Okuneye, expressed confidence in Ranganath’s ability to lead the company into its next phase.
“Dr Krish’s extensive experience, technical depth, and regional insight make him the ideal leader to drive UniCloud Africa forward,” he said.
Positioning for Africa’s Digital Future
With a clear mandate to scale infrastructure, deepen partnerships, and lead Africa’s sovereign cloud movement, Ranganath is set to reposition UniCloud Africa as a critical enabler of digital transformation for governments, enterprises, and digital businesses across the continent.
