Over 8 Million Nigerians Register Online in INEC’s Ongoing Continuous Voter Registration
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that over 8 million Nigerians have completed online registration under the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise held between October 13 and 19, 2025.

According to official data released by the Commission, women accounted for 52.37% (4,190,890) of total registrants, while men represented 47.63% (3,812,306).
Youths Dominate Registration with Over 5.5 Million Entries
INEC data further revealed that youths aged 18 to 34 years constituted the majority of new online registrants, with 5,533,514 entries, representing 69.14% of all submissions.
Imo State topped the list with 826,850 online pre-registrations (10.32%), followed by Lagos State with 604,619 (7.56%), and Ogun State with 510,062 (6.37%).
So far, 1,710,450 Nigerians have completed both online pre-registration and physical biometric capture, with women making up 55.27% of that figure.
INEC to Validate Data Using Biometric System
INEC emphasized that all registration data will be subjected to validation through its Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) to ensure accuracy and prevent multiple registrations.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s voter database ahead of upcoming elections, including the Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
Historical Context: Comparison with 2022 CVR Figures
In July 2022, INEC had reported that over 10.4 million Nigerians began their voter registration online, but only 3.4 million completed the mandatory physical verification process.
At the time, 7 million Nigerians opted to register entirely at physical centers, bringing total completed registrations to 10,487,972.
This highlights a recurring challenge: while online enthusiasm is high, fewer registrants follow through with the in-person biometric step required to complete voter registration.
Current Electoral Landscape
- New INEC Chairman: Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, was appointed as INEC’s new substantive Chairman in October 2025.
- Upcoming Elections: INEC is preparing for the Anambra Governorship Election on November 8, 2025.
- Data Requests: The Commission recently clarified the cost of providing Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the National Register of Voters, in line with the Freedom of Information Act.
- No New Nationwide Drive: Since the conclusion of the pre-2023 registration exercise, INEC has not launched another major CVR drive.
Ensuring data integrity, youth inclusion, and credible elections
While the reported 8 million online registrations reflect strong civic engagement, INEC’s past experience indicates that only a fraction of these may ultimately complete the full registration process. As electoral preparations intensify, the Commission’s focus remains on ensuring data integrity, youth inclusion, and credible elections across Nigeria.
