In a strategic partnership to accelerate Kano’s digital economy, Wave5Wireless Limited has announced a new collaboration with the Kano State Information and Technology Development Agency (KASITDA). The deal will help to transform the digital landscape of Kano, Nigeria’s second-largest city. The partnership aims to connect over 3 million internet users. It will also create 8,000 jobs, and support 15,000 small businesses through expanded digital infrastructure.

Empowering Northern Nigeria Through Broadband Connectivity
Kano, with a population exceeding 4 million, is already served by broadband providers like Spectranet, MTN Nigeria, and Tizeti. All of these operators are offering fibre and 4G LTE services that support online education, e-commerce, and remote work. However, the new partnership with Wave5Wireless is expected to take digital penetration to new heights, with a focus on affordable, high-speed connectivity.
Wave5 CEO Mr. Ayọ̀wándé Àdalémọ, during a strategic session with Dr. Bashir Abdu Muzakkari, Director General of KASITDA, described the move as a “big leap for Kano’s digital future.” He emphasised the need for inclusive internet access across Nigeria to bridge the digital divide and fuel local economies.
Government Endorsement and Support
Following the meeting, Àdalémọ was introduced to Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the Secretary to the State Government. Ibrahim reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to ICT growth and investment in Kano. Government stakeholders praised the project’s potential to unlock economic opportunities for youth and entrepreneurs in the state.
Wave5’s Broader Vision for Nigeria
This isn’t Wave5Wireless’s only major initiative. The company recently partnered with Globacom on a Wi-Fi offload project in Lagos, targeting network congestion and expanding access in densely populated urban markets. The pilot will launch in Tejuosho and Arena markets and at 15 LAMATA bus shelters, targeting over 200,000 users who often face poor internet speeds.
Wave5’s CEO, who was earlier recognized among the Most Valuable Personalities in Nigeria’s Digital Economy 2025 by IT Edge News.Africa, expressed a commitment to empowering Nigerians through reliable internet access.
