This collaboration integrates Vertiv’s power distribution and cooling portfolio with Caterpillar’s and its subsidiary Solar Turbines’ expertise in power generation and Combined Cooling, Heat, and Power (CCHP) systems.
Pre-Designed Architectures for Faster Deployment
The partnership focuses on creating modular, pre-engineered architectures that simplify deployment, reduce design cycles, and optimise performance for data centre operations. Key components include:
- Power Generation Solutions: Caterpillar and Solar Turbines will provide natural gas turbines and reciprocating engines for reliable, scalable electric power and thermal energy for CCHP.
- Power and Cooling Solutions: Vertiv will deliver integrated cooling and power solutions packaged as modular blocks, streamlining design and installation.
Customer Benefits of the Collaboration
The integrated approach offers multiple advantages for data centre operators:
- Accelerated Time-to-Power: Modular, pre-designed reference architectures enable faster deployment.
- Improved Energy Efficiency: Optimized power, cooling, and distribution reduce Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and carbon footprint.
- Global Lifecycle Support: Customers benefit from the combined service and support networks of both Vertiv and Caterpillar.
Strategic Vision Behind the Partnership
“This collaboration is a cornerstone of our Bring Your Own Power & Cooling (BYOP&C) strategy and aligns with our grid-to-chip framework, providing resilient on-site power solutions,” said Gio Albertazzi, CEO of Vertiv.
“By integrating our complementary technologies and tested building blocks, customers can design, build, and deploy concurrently with predictable performance.”
Jason Kaiser, Group President of Caterpillar Power & Energy, added, “As AI-driven workloads continue to grow, robust and scalable power infrastructure is critical. Our partnership with Vertiv enables integrated, on-site energy solutions that lower PUE and meet evolving data centre needs.”
Driving the Future of AI and High-Performance Computing
The Vertiv-Caterpillar initiative addresses the rising demand for on-site energy solutions, offering a customer-first approach to energy management. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) marks a pivotal step in enabling data centres to overcome energy constraints and deploy optimized AI and high-performance computing centres.
