Nigeria is at a pivotal moment in its digital evolution. The decisions we make about infrastructure, security, and digital public services will determine our competitiveness in a rapidly transforming global digital economy.
Positioned at the centre of this shift is Galaxy Backbone (GBB), which earlier in the year, unveiled an ambitious new roadmap: the Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS) 2025–2028. It is more than a document of intentions, the IDTS serves as a practical blueprint for how Nigeria’s digital ecosystem should advance—smarter, safer, more connected, and more citizen-focused.
The strategy introduces refreshed mission and vision statements that reflect GBB’s readiness for a fast-changing technological future. The organisation’s vision is clear: To become Nigeria’s leading enabler of innovative digital transformation and inclusive economic prosperity. This new direction places citizens, institutions, and businesses at the heart of every digital intervention.
The Five Pillars Defining the Journey Ahead
1. Resilient Digital Infrastructure
GBB is expanding and modernising the National ICT Infrastructure Backbone (NICTIB), deploying energy-efficient and solar-powered connectivity nationwide. The goal: making reliable digital access a universal standard.
- Integrated Digital Ecosystems
Through platforms like the Government Data Exchange (GDX), the IDTS promotes seamless interoperability. MDAs will benefit from secure, faster, and coordinated systems that enhance governance and decision-making.
- Innovative Service Delivery
User experience is a priority. GBB is simplifying access to digital services through unified portals, digital identity systems, and emerging technologies like AI to ensure efficient, citizen-friendly service delivery.
- Digital Leadership & Trust
As cyber threats evolve, digital trust becomes essential. GBB is strengthening national cybersecurity capabilities, scaling its Security Operations Center (SOC), and deepening workforce capacity to safeguard Nigeria’s digital space.
- Financial Sustainability & Value Creation
To sustain long-term impact, GBB is unlocking new value streams by expanding strategic partnerships, diversifying its service offerings, and adopting innovative funding models that strengthen financial resilience and deliver greater value to government, businesses, and citizens.
Driving Digital Transformation Through Collaboration
A core message of the IDTS is that digital progress requires collective effort. GBB is collaborating with global tech leaders, government institutions, and state partners while extending broadband to underserved communities. The aim is clear: ensure that the benefits of digital transformation reach every Nigerian.
The IDTS 2025–2028 is a call to reimagine how technology can power national development. With its renewed purpose and focused pillars, GBB is positioning itself as a catalyst for a secure, innovative, and inclusive digital future for Nigeria.
