The integration allows Nigerian users to link their PayPal accounts directly to their Paga digital wallets, creating a seamless bridge between global earnings and Nigeria’s domestic financial system.
Seamless Cross-Border Payments Now Available in Naira
With the new service, Nigerians can receive payments from PayPal-supported markets worldwide and withdraw their funds locally in Naira. Users can also spend their PayPal earnings on everyday needs, including bill payments, bank transfers, online shopping, and payments via Paga’s integrated Visa card.
The solution eliminates long-standing barriers faced by Nigerians who previously relied on complex workarounds to access PayPal funds, delivering a more secure, efficient, and locally relevant payments experience.
Boost for Freelancers, SMEs, and Online Merchants
The PayPal–Paga partnership marks a major milestone for freelancers, digital entrepreneurs, and small businesses, many of whom depend on cross-border payments to operate and scale. It also enables Nigerian merchants to tap into PayPal’s global network of over 400 million users, expanding their reach and facilitating international sales.
The announcement underscores a shared commitment by both companies to deepen financial inclusion and strengthen cross-border commerce in one of Africa’s fastest-growing digital payments markets.
Leadership Speaks on Financial Inclusion and Growth
Commenting on the launch, Tayo Oviosu, Founder and Group CEO of Paga, said:
“We are proud to make this integration live and available to users across Nigeria. Whether you are a freelancer receiving international payments, a business selling online, or a consumer shopping globally, this collaboration makes it easier to access and use global funds locally, in a way that’s simple, secure, and built for our markets.”
Otto Williams, Senior Vice President, Regional Head and General Manager of PayPal Middle East and Africa, added:
“We have been intentional about partnering with local innovators like Paga and developing solutions that help Nigerians earn, spend, and grow. This collaboration strengthens the payments ecosystem by supporting local innovation, expanding financial inclusion, and enabling more consumers and businesses to participate confidently in the digital economy.”
Positioned for Scale in a Fast-Growing Digital Payments Market
Nigeria’s digital payments sector is expanding rapidly, with transaction values reaching ₦657.8 trillion in 2023 and more than 30 million active mobile wallet users, according to a 2024 report by Novatia Consulting.
With over 21 million users and a robust API-driven infrastructure, Paga is well-positioned to scale PayPal services nationwide, leveraging its trusted settlement network and digital wallet ecosystem.
How to Access PayPal Services Through Paga
To start using the service, users simply log into the Paga app or website, link their PayPal account, and begin receiving international payments directly into their Paga wallet. Funds can then be used for local transfers, bill payments, online purchases, or withdrawals.
Strengthening Nigeria’s Digital Economy
The PayPal–Paga partnership represents a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s financial infrastructure, promoting cross-border trade, and empowering individuals and small businesses to participate more fully in the global digital economy.
