NITDA Boosts Digital Capacity at Federal Character Commission

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has concluded a specialised digital capacity-building programme for the Federal Character Commission (FCC). This marks a significant step toward modernising Nigeria’s public service.

The initiative, which included the donation of 35 laptops, is designed to transition the Commission from manual processes to a data-driven oversight model. It is designed to strengthen transparency, accountability, and equitable representation across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Aligning with Nigeria’s Digital Transformation Agenda

The programme aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, This training particularly prioritise areas of economic reform, inclusive growth, and improved governance for effective service delivery.

It was delivered under NITDA’s Digital Literacy for All (DL4All) programme. The DL4All  focuses on strengthening digital capacity across public sector institutions and building a future-ready workforce capable of supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation goals.

Focus on Data Analysis and Management

Held at the FCC headquarters, the training centred on enhancing staff competencies in data analysis and data management. They constitute critical skills for the Commission’s mandate of monitoring equitable representation across the federal public service.

Representing NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, the Acting Director of Digital Literacy and Capacity Building, Dr Ahmed Yusuf Tambour, said the intervention was tailored to the Commission’s core responsibilities.

“We are here at the Federal Character Commission to carry out a training for staff of the Commission in the area of digital literacy to enhance their proficiency. We are particularly focusing on data analysis and data management, because this really aligns with the core mandate of the Commission,” he explained.

Strengthening Oversight Through Digital Tools

The FCC relies heavily on accurate, well-managed data to carry out its nationwide oversight functions. By strengthening staff capacity in data handling and digital tools, NITDA aims to improve the Commission’s ability to manage complex datasets efficiently and transparently.

Describing the programme as impactful, Abdullahi noted that 35 staff members were trained, with strong participation and positive feedback from beneficiaries.

Laptop Donation to Sustain Impact

To ensure sustainability and practical application of the training, NITDA donated 35 laptops to the Commission. The equipment is expected to support continuous learning. It will also enhance workflow efficiency, and enable staff to integrate digital tools seamlessly into daily operations.

“We are hoping that this will help the Commission to manage the very important data that they collect across all MDAs,” Abdullahi added.

The intervention underscores NITDA’s ongoing commitment to deepening digital inclusion within government institutions. By equipping public servants with practical digital skills and essential tools, the Agency is strengthening data-driven decision-making. Geared towards improving institutional efficiency, the training supports government’s vision of a modern, responsive, and inclusive public service.
