NITDA Strengthens Legal Framework for Digital Transformation

In a move to deepen institutional competence and enhance transparency in Nigeria’s digital economy, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has organized a one-day capacity-building workshop on Information Technology Contract Management. The training was designed for legal officers from parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE).

Held in Abuja, the workshop, focused on strengthening participants’ expertise in procurement procedures, negotiation strategies, compliance frameworks, and dispute resolution mechanisms within IT contracting.

Representing the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, the Director of Regulations and Compliance, Barrister Emmanuel Edet, emphasized the strategic importance of IT contracts in shaping governance and ensuring effective service delivery.

“Digital transformation is no longer an ambition but a necessity. The agreements guiding technology adoption and deployment carry long-term consequences for Nigeria’s development,” Edet stated.

He further stressed that IT contracts must be technologically sound, legally robust, commercially fair, and strategically aligned with the institutional mandates of government agencies.

Workshop as a Platform for Reform and Collaboration

Abdullahi urged participants to treat the event as more than just training, but as a launchpad for collaboration and institutional reform.

“Let this event be a prompt for collaboration, a forum for critical thinking, and a commencement for institutional reform. Engage actively, ask questions, challenge assumptions, and leave here not just informed, but empowered,” he charged.

Participants drawn from law, technology, finance, and public administration sectors were commended for their commitment to raising professional standards in public contracting. Their engagement reflected a shared dedication to transparency, efficiency, and innovation across public institutions.

The workshop provided opportunities for networking and peer learning, enabling legal officers to share experiences and develop solutions to recurring challenges in IT contract management.
