Plateau State and DBI forge partnership to Build ICT Campus in Jos

In a significant move to bolster Nigeria’s digital economy, the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) and the Plateau State Government have announced a partnership to establish a state-of-the-art ICT campus in Jos.

The initiative is designed to serve as a Centre of Excellence for education, research, and innovation.

Joint Technical Working Group Inaugurated for Project

To ensure the project’s swift and effective implementation, a Joint Technical Working Group (JTWG) has been constituted. The group was officially inaugurated at a ceremony held at the Government House in Rayfield, Jos. It was inaugurated by Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and the President of DBI, Mr. David Daser.

The JTWG, which will operate for 12-24 months, is tasked with guiding the planning, coordination, and execution of the new campus.

Governor Mutfwang Hails “Historic” Milestone for Youths

Governor Mutfwang described the partnership as a historic turning point for the state’s technology-driven future. This has profound implications for its youth. He identified ICT as a long-standing priority. He also stated that this collaboration would fast-track e-governance, e-commerce, and other digital opportunities.

“We are eager to see deliverables within the shortest possible time. Whatever we need to do as a government to make this succeed, we shall do,” the Governor declared, pledging the state’s full support for the project.

DBI President Outlines Benefits for Plateau State

DBI President, David Daser, explained that the initiative is part of DBI’s restructuring into a national digital institute. He emphasized that the campus would position Plateau State as a key beneficiary of future funding opportunities, donor-funded scholarships, and advanced training programs.

Linking the project to national initiatives, Daser noted that Plateau State is strategically positioned to become a regional hub for digital jobs, especially alongside the Federal Government’s Talent City Project and fiber optic expansion. He also urged the swift passage of the Plateau State Startup Act to unlock critical funding for the tech ecosystem.

The JTWG, represented by Arc. Samuel Jatau, pledged its unwavering commitment to delivering on the mandate promptly.
