The National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) has secured the use of the prestigious Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) https://dbi.edu.ng/for its upcoming cultural orientation retreat, aimed at policy makers and private sector executives.
This approval was granted during a recent visit by NICO’s management team to the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
Otunba Biodun Ajiboye, Executive Secretary/CEO of NICO, emphasized that the retreat is designed to educate policy makers and lawmakers on Nigeria’s culture, customs, and traditions. This understanding is expected to enhance the relevance and respect of laws and policies to the cultural identities of the Nigerian people.

“We expect all policy makers, including private sector executives, to attend this orientation. The retreat will provide lawmakers, local government chairmen, state commissioners, special advisers, and private sector leaders with insights into the customs and traditions of Nigeria,” Ajiboye stated.
“Retreat aligns with NICO’s mandate to ensure policy makers are culturally informed”
Ajiboye also highlighted that the retreat would benefit foreign investors and diplomats, offering them a deeper understanding of Nigerian culture. “Diplomats coming into Nigeria and those leaving for other countries should have the benefit of this orientation. We are pleased to have a suitable venue like the DBI,” he added.
He noted that misunderstandings, such as the resistance telcos face when erecting masts or laying underground cables, often stem from a lack of cultural understanding. The retreat aims to address such issues by fostering better awareness among stakeholders.
Earlier, Ajiboye had communicated with the leadership of the National Assembly, urging lawmakers in both chambers to participate in the cultural orientation exercise, aligning with NICO’s mandate to ensure all policy makers are culturally informed.
