During a strategic meeting at NiDCOM headquarters, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, and Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, described the partnership as a timely intervention. They believe the partnership will help connect local innovators with diaspora scientists, technologists, engineers, and entrepreneurs.
NASENI’s Innovation-Driven Projects
Halilu highlighted several flagship NASENI projects, including:
- Revolut-inspired payment platform – providing Nigerians with low-cost, real-time, multi-currency transfers.
- Innovation Hub & Incubation Programme – supporting Nigerian scientists and innovators at home and in the diaspora with funding and mentorship.
- Delta-2 Project – a Nigeria-Czech Republic partnership, now entering its third phase, to deepen international collaboration in technology and innovation.
He noted that these initiatives align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Under Tinubu, government is aiming to create jobs, improve financial inclusion, and expand Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem.
Engaging the Nigerian Diaspora for National Development
Halilu said NASENI’s partnership with NiDCOM will engage Nigerians in the diaspora in innovation and entrepreneurship. The collaboration aims to boost science, technology, and economic growth through diaspora-driven projects. He noted NiDCOM’s database of professionals as a vital tool for mobilising skills and expertise.
In response, Dabiri-Erewa commended NASENI’s innovation strides and affirmed NiDCOM’s readiness to provide full support. She encouraged NASENI’s participation in the 8th Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS), scheduled for November 11–13, 2025 in Abuja, as a platform to showcase its projects to global investors and diaspora professionals.
Joint Working Committee to Drive Collaboration
To accelerate impact, both agencies agreed to establish a Joint Working Committee to design and implement collaborative projects in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), while expanding opportunities for wider diaspora engagement.
This partnership underscores Nigeria’s determination to bridge the gap between local talent and global expertise, creating a strong ecosystem for innovation, economic growth, and technological self-reliance.
