The fintech arm of MTN Group is partnering with Unjani Clinics, a nationwide network of nurse-led community healthcare centres in South Africa. The partnership will help to provide vital hygiene and health support to young women and the elderly.
Menstrual Health and Dignity at the Forefront
As part of the Mandela Day initiative, MTN Group Fintech is donating care packages containing essential female hygiene products to promote menstrual health and restore dignity among women and girls in underserved areas.
The care packages will be distributed across five Unjani Clinics located in:
- Rietvallei
- Newlands
- Pimville
- Lenasia Ext 10
- Fleurhof
These communities were selected for their demonstrated need and the existing community impact of Unjani Clinics.
“This initiative speaks to the heart of who we are at MTN Fintech—committed to building inclusive, sustainable societies through partnerships that drive real impact,” said Nikiwe Tanga, Chief Legal Officer at MTN Group Fintech.
Corporate Responsibility Rooted in Community Wellness
MTN Group Fintech sees corporate citizenship not as a one-time gesture, but a sustained commitment to care, respect, and empowerment—especially in the health and dignity of vulnerable populations.
“Supporting young women’s health and the dignity of the elderly aligns with our purpose of enabling shared value across Africa,” Tanga added.
Unjani Clinics: Empowering Health at the Grassroots
Welcoming the partnership, Lynda Toussaint, CEO of Unjani Clinics NPC, emphasized the urgent need for hygiene support in local communities:
“Access to female hygiene products remains a persistent barrier for many young women, affecting their health, education, and self-esteem. These care packages are more than just products—they are a gesture of dignity and hope.”
The partnership illustrates a shared vision to create sustainable impact through community-anchored solutions, upholding Nelson Mandela’s legacy of service, equality, and care.
