The eight-month accelerator program aims to empower early-stage startups using Meta’s open-source Llama models to develop impactful artificial intelligence solutions targeting four critical areas: Agriculture, Security & Safety, Healthcare, and an open “Wildcard” category for disruptive AI applications in other sectors.
Focused on fostering local innovation through open-source technology, the program begins with a six-week incubation phase offering intensive technical training and mentorship from global AI experts and industry stakeholders. This is followed by six months of extended support, access to technical infrastructure, and partnership opportunities.
“We’re excited to partner with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy to launch this AI Accelerator in Nigeria — a country with a robust innovation ecosystem,” said Sade Dada, Head of Public Policy for Anglophone West Africa at Meta.
Empowering Nigerian AI Talent for Global Solutions
“By making open-source AI more accessible and relevant to local challenges, we aim to develop solutions that truly impact communities and national development,” she added.
With its rapidly growing tech ecosystem and strong pool of AI developers, Nigeria presents a fertile ground for the creation of scalable, homegrown AI solutions. The Llama Impact Accelerator will offer emerging Nigerian innovators the tools, mentorship, and resources to responsibly build high-impact solutions using Large Language Models (LLMs) like Meta’s Llama.
“This partnership marks a major step forward in our mission to develop a thriving AI ecosystem in Nigeria. We see AI as a key driver for national development, and this program will equip innovators to address pressing challenges across key sectors,” said Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy.
Championing Open Innovation in Africa’s AI Ecosystem
The initiative is part of Meta’s global commitment to responsible AI development and the democratization of artificial intelligence. Through partnerships with government, academia, and civil society, the Llama Impact Accelerator seeks to establish a robust, inclusive AI ecosystem that reflects Nigeria’s unique challenges and opportunities.
