New collaboration to revolutionize Kenya’s electronic passport with cutting-edge identity technology and improved design.

A Major Leap in Digital Identity for Kenyan Citizens

In a bold step toward modernizing its digital identity ecosystem, the Government of Kenya has partnered with Veridos, a global leader in integrated identity solutions, to roll out a next-generation electronic passport (ePassport) that combines high-level security with culturally rich design features.

This partnership aims to deliver faster issuance times, future-ready ID technology, and enhanced protection against forgery, making it easier for Kenyan citizens to travel regionally and internationally with confidence.

Blending Security with National Identity

Kenya’s upgraded ePassport will showcase the country’s Economy, History, Heritage, and Wildlife—creating a document that not only meets international standards but also reflects the nation’s values and diversity.

For the first time, the new ePassport will incorporate color photos on polycarbonate, a significant shift in personalization that offers greater durability and security.

According to Evelyn Chegulet, Director General of the Directorate of Immigration Services Kenya, “We sought to design a passport that embodies who we are as a people by showcasing the Kenyan story and promoting inclusivity. Veridos has the expertise and commitment to actualize our vision.”

Unmatched Technological Innovations

As part of the agreement, Veridos will implement several advanced identity security features, including:

  • CLIP ID – A high-resolution, full-color portrait feature that makes counterfeiting nearly impossible.

  • Spectre ID – A dynamic visual element that reveals matching embossed structures when tilted.

  • MAGIC ID – Adds animated effects to pages for added visual flair and anti-forgery protection.

These security features position Kenya’s ePassport among the most technologically advanced in the world, ensuring document integrity while deterring fraudulent duplication.

A Strategic Vision for Africa’s Digital Future

Veridos, a joint venture between Bundesdruckerei and Giesecke+Devrient, views this partnership as a significant milestone. Mohammad Mousa, Director of Business Development MEA at Veridos, emphasized:

“We now have the opportunity to bring real value to Kenyan citizens through our technology. Over the coming years, we will work closely with the Kenyan government to develop a progressive identity strategy that strengthens the country’s global standing as a technological pioneer.”

With this collaboration, Kenya solidifies its position as a leader in digital transformation and secure identity management across Africa.
