Kano Startup Weekend 2025: Gov Abba Kabir Yusuf leads Igniting Innovation in Northern Nigeria
The Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced the first-ever Kano Startup Weekend (KSW) 2025, scheduled for December 13–14, 2025, at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.

Organized by the Kano State Information Technology Development Agency (KASITDA), this flagship event forms a key pillar of the state’s Digital Transformation Agenda (2025–2030), designed to strengthen Kano’s position as Northern Nigeria’s leading innovation hub.
Empowering Startups and Driving Digital Growth
Kano Startup Weekend 2025 is set to tackle critical challenges faced by young entrepreneurs, including lack of funding, mentorship gaps, and limited access to digital tools. Themed “Igniting Innovation, Empowering Entrepreneurs”, the two-day summit will gather over 1,000 participants, including tech innovators, investors, founders, policymakers, and business leaders.
The event will focus on Kano’s HEAT priority sectors:
- Health
- Education
- Agriculture
- Transportation
Event Highlights
Participants will experience a mix of competitions, networking, and expert-led knowledge sessions, including:
- Pitch Competition: 20 pre-selected startups will showcase ideas before investors, competing for seed funding, prizes, and partnerships.
- Expert Sessions & Panels: Government leaders and industry experts will share insights on scaling businesses, securing funding, and emerging technologies.
- Innovation Exhibition: Startups, sponsors, and agencies like KASITDA and KanInvest will showcase cutting-edge solutions.
- Networking Forums: Structured sessions will connect mentors, investors, and entrepreneurs, creating pathways for collaboration and growth.

Speaking on the event’s significance, Dr. Bashir Abdu Muzakkari, Director-General of KASITDA, said:
“The Kano Startup Weekend is more than an event—it is a launchpad for the next generation of Kanawa entrepreneurs. It reflects the governor’s vision for a knowledge-driven economy and will position Kano as Northern Nigeria’s innovation hub.”
He added that KSW 2025 will create a pipeline for talent development, investment attraction, and sustainable economic growth, aligned with the state’s long-term digital agenda.
