The new public cloud region, announced by President William Ruto in January 2024, is designed to meet growing demand for OCI services in Kenya and reinforce the country’s position as a regional digital and cloud hub.
Why Oracle Chose iXAfrica
Oracle’s selection of iXAfrica as its colocation partner reflects the facility’s status as Kenya’s most execution-ready hyperscale data centre. Purpose-built to global cloud standards, iXAfrica offers carrier neutrality, high-density AI capability, and resilient power architecture. This is in addition to close proximity to critical submarine and national connectivity infrastructure.
These attributes make iXAfrica the only facility in the market currently capable of supporting immediate, large-scale public cloud deployments.
Accelerating Kenya’s Digital and AI Transformation
Commenting on the partnership, Snehar Shah, CEO of iXAfrica, said the company is fully mobilised to deliver the project.
“We are delighted to be in execution mode to bring OCI to Kenya. With this collaboration, iXAfrica is leveraging the renewable energy, talent, and abundant submarine and national connectivity available in our market.”
By hosting OCI locally, iXAfrica will enable organisations across Kenya and the wider region to accelerate digital transformation. It will also help to deploy latency-sensitive applications, and develop AI-powered services closer to end users.
Supporting a Sovereign, Globally Competitive Digital Economy
The collaboration lays the groundwork for a more resilient, sovereign, and globally competitive digital economy. This is anchored on world-class cloud infrastructure hosted within Kenya.
According to David Bunei, Country Leader, Kenya, Oracle:
“Around the world, governments and enterprises rely on OCI for its security, scalability, and ability to run mission-critical workloads that enable innovation at scale. These unique capabilities and our collaboration with iXAfrica will further support the growth of the country’s digital economy.”
Execution-Ready Hyperscale Infrastructure
With construction, power systems, and connectivity infrastructure already at advanced stages, iXAfrica is operating in full execution mode to support hyperscale cloud platforms. This readiness underscores the company’s commitment to delivering resilient and scalable digital infrastructure. And designed to meet the stringent operational requirements of global cloud providers.
The Nairobi OCI region is expected to play a critical role in supporting enterprise cloud adoption, government digital services, and next-generation AI workloads across East and Central Africa.
