Speaking at the graduation of the first Benue State Summer Tech Training for Children, the induction of Digital Benue Children Ambassadors, and the unveiling of the “One Student, One Computer, One Digital Skill+” initiative in Makurdi, the governor—represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Sam Ode—emphasized that the youth remain the foundation of re-engineering Benue’s economy through technology.
102 Children Graduate from First Summer Tech Training
The event marked the graduation of 102 children from the fully funded Benue State Government Summer Tech Training Program, hosted at the BDIC Digital Skills Lab. Participants received hands-on training in digital literacy, software development, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and job readiness.
To further support continuous learning, each child was awarded a BDIC tablet with a dedicated data SIM card, ensuring sustained access to digital resources and government-supported online learning platforms.
Tackling Nigeria’s Digital Education Barriers
Nigeria faces persistent challenges in digital education, including inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, unreliable power supply, high cost of digital devices, and a shortage of skilled trainers.
The 2025 BDIC Summer Tech Camp was strategically designed to address these obstacles by providing free, intensive four-week training sessions delivered inside a state-of-the-art facility.
“This historic program is a major leap forward in the Digital Benue Vision,” said Terwase Gbande-Hembaor, Managing Director/CEO of the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC).
Building a Digital Future for Benue
Gbande-Hembaor added that the initiatives reaffirm the state’s long-term vision of creating a digitally skilled generation capable of competing globally while solving local challenges.
“With BDIC at the forefront of this transformation, I am confident that Benue will rise as a hub of digital inclusion, innovation, and job creation. The Benue Digital Future is here,” he said.
