The visit provided lawmakers with first-hand insight into GBB’s operations, infrastructure capabilities, and its expanding role in supporting secure, technology-driven governance across the country.
Lawmakers Laud GBB as Strategic National Asset
Led by the Chairman of the House Committee on Digital and Information Technology, Stanley Olajide Adedeji, the delegation engaged GBB management in discussions around the organisation’s mandate, performance milestones, and strategic direction in advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
Hon. Adedeji described Galaxy Backbone as a strategic national asset, stressing the need for sustained legislative backing and increased investment in government ICT institutions to drive economic growth, enhance national security, and improve Nigeria’s global competitiveness.
GBB Reaffirms Commitment to Secure Government ICT
Welcoming the lawmakers, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ibrahim A. Adeyanju, reaffirmed GBB’s commitment to delivering secure, reliable, and scalable ICT infrastructure and shared services to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as the private sector nationwide.
He noted that Galaxy Backbone remains central to the Federal Government’s drive to modernise public service delivery through digital platforms, cloud services, enterprise data centres, and secure connectivity.
Two Decades of Driving Digital Government
Established in 2006, Galaxy Backbone is the Federal Government’s leading ICT infrastructure and shared services provider and has played a pivotal role in transforming public sector operations.
In a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications, Chidi Okpala, the company highlighted how GBB has enabled MDAs to transition from fragmented, paper-based processes to integrated, technology-driven systems.
According to the statement, this transformation has improved government-to-government coordination, strengthened engagement with businesses, and enhanced service delivery to citizens. Today, GBB-powered digital infrastructure supports thousands of government users, hundreds of institutions, and several critical national platforms relied upon daily by Nigerians.
National and Global Recognition
Galaxy Backbone’s impact has earned both national and international recognition. In 2025, the organisation ranked first overall in the Federal Government Website Performance Scorecard, underscoring its commitment to excellence in digital service delivery.
Internationally, GBB previously received the prestigious United Nations Public Service Award, recognising its leadership in promoting a whole-of-government approach to digital transformation.
Looking Ahead to GBB’s 20th Anniversary
As Galaxy Backbone prepares to mark its 20th anniversary in June 2026, the company plans to convene stakeholders across the public and private sectors to celebrate collaboration and chart the future of Nigeria’s digital evolution.
According to GBB, the anniversary will serve not only as an organisational milestone but also as a celebration of how partnerships among government, industry, technology providers, and public servants have helped build a more connected and digitally enabled nation.
The event will reflect on past achievements, acknowledge key partnerships, and outline an ambitious roadmap for the future, reinforcing Galaxy Backbone’s position as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and public service transformation.
