GBB Guarantees MDA’s Service Continuity Despite Fiscal Challenges
Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) is playing a pivotal role in sustaining Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda despite financial challenges facing Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). With the 2025 capital budget largely unreleased, MDAs are reliant on GBB’s existing infrastructure to maintain digital services.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with IT Edge News, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, CEO/Managing Director of GBB, disclosed that the company’s infrastructure investments have become a lifeline for government ICT services.
“For digitization and ICT services, without Galaxy Backbone covering that deficit or gap in government, none of the MDAs would have ICT services. There’s a big aspect of business continuity driven by Galaxy Backbone, made possible by our past investments in robust ICT infrastructure,” Adeyanju stated.
He emphasized that GBB ensures business continuity for government through its nationwide ICT infrastructure.
A Strategy Built on Resilience, Trust, and Innovation
The CEO outlined the company’s Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy, which is built on several key pillars to ensure long-term sustainability and service delivery to both government and private sector clients.
- Infrastructure Resilience: GBB is focused on ensuring its infrastructure “is not just current, but improving over time” to provide reliable services.
- Digital Leadership and Trust: “We want our customers, the government, and our stakeholders to trust us because they’re keeping a lot of data with us,” Adeyanju emphasized, highlighting this as a core strategic pillar.
- Innovative Service Delivery: The company is continuously improving its service delivery to ensure customer satisfaction across the public and private sectors.
Driving Profitability and Global Competitiveness
Since assuming office, Professor Adeyanju has repositioned GBB with a stronger focus on business profitability and financial sustainability. This includes forging new partnerships with private sector actors and state governments.
“Our strategy is quite comprehensive and it covers that spectrum of resilience, financial sustainability, value creation, [and] innovative service delivery,” he told IT Edge News.
Global Competitiveness Through International Certifications
To bolster its global competitiveness and reliability, Galaxy Backbone has secured and maintained six international certifications. These include:
- ISO 27001 for Information Security Management (ISMS)
- ISO 20000 for IT Service Management
- ISO 9001 for Quality Management
- ISO 22301 for Business Continuity Management
- PCI DSS for secure payment processing
- National Data Protection compliance
“I dare to say that Galaxy Backbone is one of the few either government agencies or private companies that has up to six international certifications. We have maintained some of these certifications since 2011, underscoring our commitment to global best practices,” Adeyanju added.
He said this underscores the organization’s commitment to world-class standards and to prioritise resilience, infrastructure upgrades, and innovative service delivery.
“We are focused on delivering innovative services and continuously improving our service delivery, not just to MDAs but also to private enterprises,” he noted.
Since assuming leadership in February 2024, Adeyanju has repositioned the company to become more business-oriented, sustainability-driven, and profitability-focused, while strengthening partnerships with state governments and private sector players.
Building Trust as a Digital Ecosystem Leader
Adeyanju highlighted that building trust remains central to GBB’s strategy.
“One pillar of our strategy is what we call Digital Leadership and Trust. We must remain leaders in the digital ecosystem where government, stakeholders, and customers entrust us with critical data. That trust is vital,” he stated.
Positioning for the Future
Adeyanju reaffirmed that Galaxy Backbone’s strategy covers resilience, financial sustainability, innovative service delivery, and ecosystem integration. By aligning with global standards and investing in trust-driven digital leadership, GBB aims to solidify its role as the backbone of Nigeria’s digital economy.
