The initiative reflects the bank’s longstanding commitment to diversity, accessibility, and equal opportunity across its operations.

Inclusive Banking for All

As part of the phased rollout, FirstBank will introduce accessibility features across its branches and digital platforms. Customers with visual and physical impairments will benefit from:

  • Transaction documents in braille, audio, large print, and digital formats.
  • ATMs with high-contrast screens and voice-prompt commands.
  • Cards designed with tactile motifs and braille inscriptions.
  • Enhanced soft PINs and tokens for secure banking access.
  • Product brochures available in braille and audio formats.

These efforts will allow customers to manage their accounts independently and securely, without relying on third-party assistance.

A Broader Commitment to Diversity

FirstBank’s inclusion strategy extends beyond physical accessibility. The bank maintains a strong gender balance with 41% women employees and 37% women in management roles, supported by initiatives like the FirstBank Women Network, which fosters leadership opportunities for women.

Aligning with Global Standards

The bank’s inclusive services are in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s financial inclusion strategy and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), both of which advocate for equal access to financial services for all citizens.

Voices from FirstBank

Patrick Akhidenor, Chief Risk Officer and Chairman of the FirstBank Sustainability Committee, emphasized:

“Everyone deserves access to financial services whether physically or digitally. We are making it possible for visually impaired and physically challenged customers to manage their accounts independently and securely.”

Setting a New Standard in African Banking

Founded in 1894, FirstBank continues to position itself as a pioneer in ethical, inclusive, and innovative banking. With this new initiative, the bank is not only breaking barriers but also setting a benchmark for accessible financial services across Africa.
