The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) as the primary ICT infrastructure provider for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Government is reinforcing the country’s Nigeria First Policy on data sovereignty and digital infrastructure.

FG Endorses GBB for ICT Infrastructure and Data Hosting

In a circular issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), the government reiterated its focus on maximizing investments in the National Information Communications Technology Infrastructure Backbone (NICTIB).

The directive mandates Federal Government institutions to adopt Galaxy Backbone’s IP-network services, data centre hosting, and related ICT infrastructure solutions to ensure secure, reliable, and world-class service delivery.

Strengthening Data Sovereignty Through Centralized Services

Established by the Federal Government, GBB plays a strategic role in guaranteeing data sovereignty. One of its core objectives is to provide a centralized e-government platform with secure connectivity.

Over the years, GBB has achieved multiple international certifications, underscoring its capability to deliver trusted, globally recognized ICT solutions.

With this renewed endorsement, GBB will serve as the Government Data Exchange Platform and interoperability layer for Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure. By so doing it will ensure federal digital services work in synergy while safeguarding national data.

Encouraging MDAs to Migrate Data Back Home

The government’s directive aligns with the Nigeria First Policy by encouraging MDAs hosting sensitive national data abroad to migrate to GBB’s secure platforms.

Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, Managing Director/CEO of GBB, emphasized:

“Our pledge is to listen, collaborate, and provide tailored digital infrastructure solutions that meet the unique needs of each agency, while ensuring Nigeria’s data remains safe within our borders.”
