The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (FMIST), has officially endorsed the first National Science, Technology and Innovation Communication Conference (STICOMMS 2025).

The endorsement was announced by Chief Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology. He  described the conference as a “unique and first-of-its-kind” initiative for Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem.

Ministry to Collaborate with Organizers

Nnaji pledged the Ministry’s collaboration with the organisers — the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja, and its partners.  The partners are led by Prof. Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, FAS, President of AUST and Chair of the STICOMMS 2025 Local Organizing Committee (LOC).

He confirmed that the Ministry will deploy two senior staff to join the LOC. This is to ensure effective participation and representation in both the planning and execution of the event.

“This conference comes at the right time when the Ministry is working tirelessly to promote research and innovation outputs from our agencies nationwide,” the Minister said.

Purpose and Scope of STICOMMS 2025

Scheduled for October 21–23, 2025, at AUST Abuja, STICOMMS 2025 is designed to advance the communication of science, technology, and innovation (STI) in Nigeria.

Prof. Onwualu explained that the conference will foster collaboration between government, academia, research agencies, and industry stakeholders, with key areas of partnership including:

  • Delivery of a ministerial keynote address at the opening session
  • Participation and sponsorship of Ministry staff
  • Showcasing selected innovations and achievements from research agencies
  • Mobilization of agencies under FMIST to actively participate
  • Featuring the Ministry’s achievements in the official conference programme

Strengthening Science and Innovation for National Development

According to stakeholders, STICOMMS 2025 will create a platform to bridge research with practical application. It will also ensure innovations are effectively communicated to the public, and contribute to Nigeria’s broader national development goals.

The conference reflects the visionary leadership of the Federal Government in strengthening Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem through strategic partnerships, improved communication, and wider adoption of scientific research outputs
