Hosted by leading global organizations—including the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Co-Develop, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Centre for Digital Public Infrastructure (CDPI), and Boston Consulting Group (BCG)—the challenge is organized in partnership with the COP30 Presidency.

This first-of-its-kind global innovation challenge focuses on leveraging Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI)—such as digital identity, interoperable payments, and open data platforms—to power transformative solutions across sectors like energy transition, disaster resilience, sustainable agriculture, and carbon markets.

Empowering Climate-Smart Digital Innovation for the Global South

The DPI4PP Challenge aims to catalyze scalable, inclusive solutions that directly benefit low-income and climate-vulnerable populations, especially in the Global South. It welcomes applications from startups, research institutions, NGOs, social enterprises, and established companies looking to apply or enhance DPI-based innovations.

According to Takeshi Oikawa, Managing Director and Partner at BCG, the challenge is already drawing strong interest from African innovators and development actors.

“Their engagement reflects a shared belief that DPI can unlock scalable, inclusive climate solutions that serve real needs on the ground,” he noted.

Why DPI4PP Is Unique

  1. Global First: It’s the world’s first innovation challenge at the intersection of people, planet, and digital public infrastructure.
  2. Beyond a Competition: DPI4PP is not a one-off contest, but part of a broader journey to launch high-impact, scalable solutions.
  3. High-Impact Partnerships: Anchored by global DPI leaders and supported by the climate innovation ecosystem and COP30 Presidency.
