Benue State Empowers Youth with Digital Tablets 

A wave of digital enthusiasm is sweeping through Benue State as parents and children flock to the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC) to receive digital learning tablets.

This initiative is a key part of the state’s ambitious plan to equip its youth with critical 21st-century skills and follows the recent graduation of the first-ever Benue State Summer Tech Training for Children.

Governor Alia Launches “One Student, One Computer” Initiative

The distribution drive is a direct result of the “One Student, One Computer, One Digital Skill+” initiative unveiled by the Executive Governor of Benue State, Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia. The launch took place at the recent graduation ceremony for 102 participants of the pioneering Benue State Summer Tech Bootcamp.

Represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Sam Ode, Governor Alia emphasized that the state’s youth are the cornerstone of its economic future. He stated that technology is the primary tool for “re-engineering Benue’s economy,” signalling a strong government commitment to digital transformation.

BDIC Drives Digital Inclusion and Recognizes Excellence

Terwase Gbande-Hembaor, Managing Director/CEO of the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC), confirmed that the company has begun documenting and handing over tablets to the top performers from the bootcamp.

“As part of this ongoing initiative, our team documented and formally handed over four digital learning tablets to our graduates in recognition of their outstanding and sterling performance during the Bootcamp,” said Gbande-Hembaor.

He described the program as a direct fulfillment of Governor Alia’s vision to lay a solid digital foundation for the children and youth of Benue.

Building a Generation of Digitally Empowered Leaders

The BDIC CEO further reinforced the company’s long-term mission, stating, “BDIC is committed to raising a new generation of digitally empowered leaders who will drive innovation, economic growth, and global competitiveness for Benue.”

The Summer Tech Training Program, hosted at the state-of-the-art BDIC Digital Skills Lab, provided participants with intensive hands-on training in crucial modern fields. The curriculum covered digital literacy, software development, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and job readiness, ensuring a well-rounded tech education.

This successful bootcamp and the subsequent tablet distribution mark a significant step forward in positioning Benue State as a hub for technology and innovation in Nigeria.
