Data streaming adoption is rising rapidly across major enterprises worldwide. But so too are the complexities, governance challenges, and fragmentation caused by expanding multi-platform use.

These findings come from a new research report by Conduktor, the intelligent data hub for real-time streaming and AI workloads.

Organizations increasingly rely on data streaming to power faster decision-making, and strengthen customer experiences. There is also increasing reliance on interconnect diverse systems, and enhance developer productivity. Streaming is similarly becoming a core enabler of artificial intelligence (AI) strategies.

Expectedly, it is now serving as the real-time data backbone for next-generation applications. However, most companies still lack strong data governance, quality controls, and observability to unlock the full value of their streaming investments.

Multi-Platform Streaming Is Now the Norm

Conduktor’s research — based on responses from 200 senior IT and data executives at companies earning at least $50 million annually — highlights how rapidly the landscape is shifting:

  • 93% of organizations now rely on multi-platform data streaming architectures
  • 77% use more streaming platforms today than they did two years ago
  • Only 16% have consolidated down to a single platform
  • Just 7% use fewer platforms than they did in 2022

This rapid proliferation is creating a governance dilemma for enterprises striving to support AI adoption.

“Unchecked Platform Sprawl Is Becoming a Major Risk” — Conduktor CEO

According to Nicolas Orban, CEO of Conduktor, while the rise of data streaming is expected — especially for powering AI — the uncontrolled expansion of platforms is introducing new operational and financial risks.

“Although most respondents report a greater use of data streaming, the unchecked spread of platforms can create problems,” Orban said.
“To realize ROI from streaming investments, organizations must take governance, performance, and security seriously from the very beginning.”

He adds that consolidation is becoming a necessity as companies attempt to reduce architectural complexity, lower costs, and simplify data governance.

Global Market for Streaming Data Systems to Hit $23.8 Billion by 2032

According to market intelligence firm Dataintelo, the global market for streaming data processing system software — valued at $9.5 billion in 2023 — is projected to grow to $23.8 billion by 2032, with a CAGR of 10.8%.

The surge is driven by the exponential rise in real-time data from:
