With increasing digital connectivity through smartphones, computers, and internet services, everyday life has become more convenient — but also more vulnerable to cyber threats, scams, and hackers waiting for a single careless click.

Every October, the cybersecurity world comes together to mark Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Organizations send out reminders. Security teams run training sessions.

Simple Steps for Better Cyber Hygiene

NITDA emphasizes that every Nigerian can play a role in safeguarding the nation’s digital ecosystem by practicing basic cyber hygiene, including:

  • Using strong and unique passwords for all online accounts.
  • Enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) to add extra layers of protection.
  • Updating devices and applications regularly to fix vulnerabilities.
  • Backing up important data frequently.
  • Avoiding suspicious links or email attachments.
  • Being cautious when sharing personal or financial information online.
