The newly commissioned plant is Africa’s largest fibre optic manufacturing facility and the continent’s first fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) production plant. It is set to strengthen Nigeria’s broadband backbone, accelerate digital infrastructure rollout, and position the nation as a regional telecommunications hub.
Minister Bosun Tijani Hails Project as a Milestone in Digital Inclusion
Speaking at the commissioning, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, described the project as a “defining moment” for Nigeria’s journey toward shared prosperity and digital inclusion.
“Nigeria is firmly on a path to shared prosperity. The launch of this facility is timely and strategic as we continue to deploy 90,000 kilometres of fibre optic network across Nigeria under Project BRIDGE,” Tijani said.
“The establishment of a local factory capable of producing this critical component is a truly significant milestone. This facility will not only meet national fibre needs but also serve as a continental hub, supplying infrastructure projects across Africa in the years ahead.”
He commended CTIL’s leadership for their visionary investment and praised the Ogun State Government for fostering an investor-friendly environment. Tijani also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reform agenda aimed at positioning Nigeria as a $1 trillion economy.
Strengthening Local Capacity and Reducing Import Dependency
With the commissioning of the Sagamu V Factory, Coleman is redefining Africa’s industrial landscape by enhancing local manufacturing capacity. It is also reducing import dependence, and enabling faster, more reliable broadband deployment across Nigeria and beyond.
The facility embodies world-class engineering, innovation, and the resilience of Nigeria’s private sector in supporting national development goals.
More than an infrastructure milestone, the project represents a symbol of industrial transformation — where technology, skilled talent, and indigenous innovation converge to power Africa’s connected and inclusive digital future.
A Legacy of Innovation and Commitment
As Coleman celebrates five decades of industrial excellence, the company’s continued expansion reaffirms its position as a trailblazer in Africa’s cable manufacturing industry.
The Sagamu V Fibre Optic Factory stands as a monument to Nigerian ingenuity, advancing the nation’s quest for digital sovereignty, economic diversification, and sustainable growth.
