The American Corner Abuja came alive last week as Code Campus International, in collaboration with American Spaces Nigeria and Workflow Consult, hosted a vibrant and impactful Girls in ICT Day celebration.

With the theme “Girls in ICT: For Inclusive Digital Transformation,” the event brought together 50 young girls from diverse backgrounds, igniting their passion for technology and innovation.

Powerful Sessions by Leading Female Tech Experts

The event opened with a motivational welcome address by Mr. Daniel Ofuani, Head of Operations at Code Campus, who celebrated Nigerian women in tech like Temi Giwa (LifeBank) and Funke Opeke (MainOne Cable)—highlighting them as role models for aspiring tech innovators.

Key highlights from the event included:

  • Jennifer Kwentoh, Data and Machine Learning Engineer, encouraged girls to explore different paths in tech and believe in their potential.
  • Mary Ifeoluwa Olawuyi, Machine Learning Engineer at Goshen STEMLAB, shared the importance of perseverance in overcoming barriers.
  • Oluwadamilola Illupeju, Web Developer, inspired the participants to embrace continuous learning and upskilling.
  • Mr. Godwin Reuben, Software Engineer Instructor, emphasized discipline and responsible AI use as foundations for a solid tech career.
  • King Immanuel, Director of Training at Code Campus, taught practical tech entry points and promoted online safety and digital literacy.
  • Mr. Ibrahim Habib, advocate for gender equality in tech, rallied for more inclusive and equitable industry practices.

The event ended with heartfelt closing remarks by Mrs. Rosemary Ali from the American Corner, encouraging the girls to dream big and continue their pursuit of excellence in technology.
