The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has officially commended the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for its exceptional role in safeguarding telecommunications infrastructure, attributing the state’s record-low damage incidents to the Corps’ diligence.

ALTON’s Chairman Lauds Command’s Professionalism and Leadership

ALTON Chairman, Gbenga Adebayo, gave the praise during a recent courtesy visit to the NSCDC Ogun State Command Headquarters in Abeokuta. He highlighted the Command’s professionalism, rapid response, and intelligence-led operations under the leadership of Commandant Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo.

“The results we are seeing in Ogun State are not by accident. They reflect the dedication, discipline, and strategic leadership of Commandant Ekundayo and her team,” Adebayo stated.

He noted that Ogun currently records the nation’s lowest incidents of vandalism, fibre cuts, and damage to telecom installations.

Tower Enumeration Project Gains Full NSCDC Backing

Adebayo also thanked the Corps for supporting ALTON’s Telecommunications Tower Enumeration Project, an NCC-endorsed initiative. He revealed that enumerators have assessed over 2,000 sites in Ogun, identifying abandoned legacy towers that will be reported to authorities to mitigate public safety risks.

NSCDC Reaffirms Mandate to Protect Critical Assets

In her response, Commandant Ekundayo reaffirmed the NSCDC’s statutory duty to protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, describing telecom infrastructure as vital to Nigeria’s socio-economic backbone and emergency systems.

She emphasized the importance of the enumeration project for improved surveillance and risk detection, calling for deeper collaboration with operators to enhance infrastructure security through intelligence-driven deployments and stakeholder engagement.

Call for Increased Government Support and Funding

During the visit, Adebayo urged the Federal Government to bolster the NSCDC’s capacity nationwide with additional funding. He stressed the need for government to NSCDC with equipment, and a minimum of 40,000 personnel. The ALTON’s chairman acknowledged the Corps’ remarkable results despite limited resources and argued that greater support would amplify its effectiveness.

Commitment to Sustained Collaboration

The ALTON Chairman reiterated the association’s commitment to ongoing collaboration with the NSCDC in Ogun State and across Nigeria. This would help to ensure reliable connectivity and the continued protection of essential telecom infrastructure.
