PalmPay introduces NightGuard to strengthen night-time transaction security
PalmPay has introduced NightGuard, a new transaction protection feature designed to give users an additional layer of security during late-night banking hours, as digital financial platforms intensify efforts to combat fraud and strengthen consumer confidence in Nigeria’s fast-growing digital payments ecosystem.

The new feature forms part of PalmPay’s “PalmPay Dey for You” security campaign, which focuses on raising awareness about financial safety and encouraging users to take advantage of the security tools available within the PalmPay app.
As digital banking continues to make financial services faster and more accessible, concerns around account compromise, phone theft, scams and unauthorised transactions have made security an increasingly important part of the customer experience.
PalmPay said its NightGuard feature is designed to address some of these concerns by providing users with additional protection during periods when they may be less alert or more vulnerable to fraudulent activity.
NightGuard Adds Extra Protection Between 11 PM and 7 AM
Available through PalmPay’s upgraded Security Center, NightGuard allows users to select preferred protection hours between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM.
Once activated, any transfer initiated during the selected period will require additional verification to confirm that the transaction is being carried out by the genuine account holder.
The feature is particularly targeted at the risks associated with late-night fraud, including situations involving lost or stolen mobile devices, compromised accounts and attempts by fraudsters to exploit customers when they may be asleep or less likely to immediately detect suspicious activity.
Femi Hanson, Head of Marketing at PalmPay Nigeria, said the feature reflects the company’s focus on providing practical security tools that give customers greater control over their accounts.
“With many fraud incidents happening at night, particularly after a phone is lost or when scammers believe a customer may be less alert, it is important for users to have practical tools that can strengthen account security,” Hanson said.
Adding:
“With NightGuard, PalmPay is laser-focused on protection during a time when users are typically off-guard. We will continue to educate users and give them more reason to feel confident about banking with us.”
Security Becomes Critical as Digital Payments Grow
The introduction of NightGuard comes as Nigeria’s digital financial ecosystem continues to expand, with millions of consumers increasingly relying on mobile applications for transfers, payments, savings and other financial transactions.
However, the rapid growth of digital finance has also created new opportunities for fraudsters, making customer awareness and stronger account protection increasingly important.
PalmPay’s “PalmPay Dey for You” campaign is therefore aimed not only at promoting its security features but also at encouraging users to take a more active role in protecting their financial information and transactions.
The company said its approach aligns with the broader industry focus on consumer protection, financial security and trust in digital payment systems, including the objectives outlined in the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Payment System Vision 2028.
Giving Customers More Control Over Account Security
NightGuard is one of several security features available through PalmPay’s upgraded Security Center, which is designed to provide customers with greater visibility and control over the protection of their accounts.
The broader strategy reflects a growing recognition across Nigeria’s fintech and banking industry that security cannot be treated solely as a back-end technology function.
Increasingly, customers are being given tools that enable them to participate directly in protecting their accounts and identifying potential threats before they result in financial losses.
PalmPay said the Security Center is intended to bring these safeguards together in a more accessible format, making it easier for customers to manage their security settings and take proactive steps to protect their money.
Building Trust in Nigeria’s Digital Financial Ecosystem
For Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital payments industry, trust remains one of the most important foundations for sustained growth.
Consumers may embrace the convenience of instant transfers and mobile banking, but confidence in digital financial services depends heavily on their ability to protect users against fraud and unauthorised access.
PalmPay said its latest initiative reinforces its commitment to combining convenience with stronger security and consumer protection.
With NightGuard, the company is seeking to give customers an additional layer of confidence during the hours when they may be most vulnerable to unauthorised transactions.
Users can access the feature through the upgraded Security Center on the PalmPay app.
As Nigeria’s digital financial ecosystem continues to evolve, the growing adoption of user-controlled security tools could become an increasingly important part of the industry’s broader effort to build safer, more resilient and trusted digital payment services.
