FourStrides has launched Pay Monthly, a new rent-financing feature designed to help eligible renters spread their housing costs into monthly payments instead of paying the full rent upfront.

The new service seeks to address one of the most persistent challenges in Nigeria’s rental market, where households typically earn income monthly but are often required to make large upfront rental payments covering a year or more.

For many prospective tenants, the challenge is therefore not finding a home but raising enough money to secure it.

Pay Monthly is designed to bridge that gap by allowing eligible renters searching for verified properties on FourStrides to apply for a monthly repayment plan directly through the platform.

The service became available from August 26, 2026, initially covering verified property listings in Abuja.

FourStrides Targets Nigeria’s Upfront Rent Challenge

Nigeria’s rental market has long operated around a fundamental financial mismatch.

Most employees and households receive salaries or business income periodically, particularly monthly. Yet tenants frequently need to produce a substantial lump sum before they can move into a property.

That upfront requirement can place significant pressure on household finances, forcing prospective renters to save for extended periods, borrow money or delay moving into suitable accommodation.

FourStrides says its Pay Monthly feature is intended to remove some of that financial friction.

Rather than requiring an eligible renter to assemble the entire rental amount before moving in, the platform allows the renter to apply for financing and repay the amount through monthly payments.

YALO Pays Landlords Upfront

The Pay Monthly service is being offered through a financing partnership between FourStrides and YALO.

Under the arrangement, YALO pays the property owner upfront, while the approved renter repays the financing through an agreed monthly payment plan.

This means landlords do not have to change their existing payment expectations or wait for the tenant to complete monthly repayments.

For property owners, the model could also expand access to a larger pool of qualified renters while preserving the upfront payment structure familiar to the rental market.

How FourStrides Pay Monthly Works

The process is integrated into the renter’s existing experience on FourStrides.

Step 1: Find a verified property

The renter searches FourStrides and shortlists a verified rental listing that meets their needs.

Step 2: Apply for monthly payments

When the renter is ready to proceed, they apply for a Pay Monthly plan directly within the rental journey.

Step 3: Complete assessment

The application is assessed alongside the platform’s tenant verification process, after which the renter is notified of the outcome.

Step 4: Move in and repay monthly

Once approved, the renter can move into the property while making the agreed monthly repayments instead of producing the entire rental amount upfront.

More Financial Flexibility for Renters

For renters, the central attraction of the new model is flexibility.

A household that can comfortably accommodate a monthly rental obligation may nevertheless struggle to raise an entire year’s rent at once.

Pay Monthly is intended to reduce that initial financial hurdle, giving eligible renters more room to manage housing costs alongside other household expenses.

“FourStrides was built on trust, verified homes, verified people, and a transparent process,” said Serge, CEO at FourStrides.

“YALO extends that trust into how renters pay, which is exactly the missing piece.”

Landlords Gain Access to More Verified Tenants

The initiative is also designed to address concerns from property owners.

Because the financing partner pays the landlord upfront, property owners can continue receiving payment on their existing terms while potentially gaining access to a broader pool of financially qualified and verified tenants.

This could be particularly relevant in a rental market where high upfront costs can exclude otherwise suitable tenants.

For landlords, the proposition is therefore less about changing how they receive rent and more about expanding the number of potential tenants who can afford to access their properties.

Pay Monthly Builds on FourStrides’ Verification Model

The new financing feature forms part of a broader FourStrides approach to simplifying the rental process.

The platform already incorporates verified property listings, renter verification, digital agreements and secure transactions, with each component designed to address a specific friction point in the rental journey.

The company views upfront rent as one of the most significant barriers still facing prospective tenants.

By adding financing to its existing property-search and verification infrastructure, FourStrides is attempting to bring property discovery, tenant verification and rent payment into a single digital experience.

YALO: Rent Financing Should Focus on Rent

YALO CEO Morenike said the partnership is focused specifically on solving the financing challenge associated with rental payments.

“This partnership is focused on one thing: making the single biggest barrier to renting in Nigeria; the upfront cost disappears,” she said.

“We’re not trying to be everything to everyone. We built rent financing to solve rent, specifically and well.”

The comments highlight the companies’ focus on a specific gap within Nigeria’s housing market rather than positioning the service as a general consumer lending product.

Abuja Becomes the Starting Point

Pay Monthly became available to eligible FourStrides renters on August 26, 2026, beginning with verified listings in Abuja.

The launch gives the companies an opportunity to test the model in one of Nigeria’s major urban rental markets, where demand for accommodation and the financial burden of upfront rent remain significant issues.

If the model gains traction, its future expansion could potentially extend the monthly-payment approach to additional locations and a broader range of verified rental properties.

A New Approach to Nigeria’s Rental Economy

The launch of Pay Monthly comes at a time when technology companies are increasingly attempting to address structural problems within Nigeria’s housing and financial ecosystems.

For renters, the underlying proposition is straightforward: earning money monthly should not necessarily mean having to produce an entire year’s housing cost on a single day.

For landlords, the model promises the possibility of maintaining upfront payment while reaching more verified prospective tenants.

And for the broader rental market, the initiative points towards a potential shift from simply digitising property searches to digitising and financing the entire rental journey.

The success of the model will ultimately depend on affordability, responsible financing, tenant eligibility and the ability to scale beyond Abuja.

But by targeting one of the most painful points in Nigeria’s rental market — the upfront cost of securing a home — FourStrides and YALO are betting that making rent more manageable could make housing more accessible to a larger segment of Nigerians.
