Covalense Digital has upgraded its Csmart Satellite Solution with agentic artificial intelligence (AI), giving satellite communication operators and their partners new tools to automate service activation, manage commercial transactions and resolve operational queries.

The global digital engineering company said the enhancement transforms the monetisation and partner-management core of its satellite communications platform, Csmart Digital BSS, into Csmart Agentic BSS.
The upgrade is designed to move satellite partner management away from traditional back-office, process-driven operations towards a more autonomous, business-focused experience in which partners can perform more activities themselves.
Covalense Digital said the new capabilities bring AI agents directly into partner operations while introducing guided service activation and expanded self-service functions.
Satellite Business Is Becoming More Partner-Driven
The satellite communications industry has evolved significantly beyond traditional business-to-business connectivity.
Today, satellite services span wholesale capacity trading, enterprise mobility, maritime fleet management, consumer broadband and Internet of Things (IoT) services.
At the same time, low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations, non-terrestrial networks (NTN), hybrid satellite-terrestrial networks and B2B2X business models are changing how satellite operators deliver and monetise services.
In this increasingly complex ecosystem, operators depend heavily on ground station operators, capacity resellers, mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs), enterprise resellers and IoT service providers.
Covalense Digital believes the experience provided to those partners is becoming an important commercial factor rather than simply an administrative function.
Csmart Agentic BSS Puts Partners at the Centre
The new Csmart Agentic BSS enhancement is aimed at reducing the operational effort required for routine partner activities, including service activation, enquiries, invoicing and dispute management.
Instead of relying on operators to process individual requests, the upgraded platform allows partners to access and manage more of their operations through a dedicated self-service environment.
The objective is to enable partners to transact more independently while reducing the workload placed on satellite operators’ support and back-office teams.
Guided Activation Designed to Reduce Provisioning Failures
One of the key enhancements is a guided and assisted service activation capability.
Covalense Digital said activation journeys can be built around inventory already associated with a partner, with configuration validated before provisioning takes place.
The approach is intended to identify configuration issues before they result in failed provisioning rather than discovering problems after an activation attempt.
The capability is designed to operate across both individual devices and batch activations, potentially making it particularly relevant to satellite IoT deployments involving large numbers of connected devices.
AI Agents Move Into Satellite Partner Operations
Another major component of the release is the integration of agentic AI into partner operations.
According to Covalense Digital, AI agents can operate across the design, execution and optimisation of business processes within defined operational guardrails.
The agents can also interact directly with partners through the portal, helping guide service activation, respond to questions in plain language and raise support tickets when required.
This effectively shifts AI from being a behind-the-scenes technology into a direct interface between satellite operators and their business partners.
Satellite IoT Messaging Gets a Monetisation Layer
Covalense Digital has also expanded Csmart Agentic BSS to support the monetisation of cloud-connected satellite IoT messaging services.
The company said the capability covers catalogue management, rating, invoicing and settlement.
That could allow satellite operators and their partners to turn emerging satellite IoT messaging services into commercially packaged and billable products.
As satellite connectivity increasingly intersects with IoT, this capability is intended to help operators move from simply providing connectivity to creating and distributing new revenue-generating services.
Lower Operational Costs and Faster Commercial Cycles
Covalense Digital said the upgraded platform is designed to deliver several operational benefits for satellite and NTN operators.
These include reducing the number of routine support tickets, shortening resolution times and lowering the amount of support effort required for everyday partner operations.
The company also expects the guided activation model to reduce provisioning failures and make it easier for partners to onboard new devices.
On the commercial side, the platform is intended to accelerate offer launches and the order-to-cash cycle while reducing order fallout during satellite billing processes.
Partner Lifecycle Moves Into One Environment
Another focus is the consolidation of the partner lifecycle.
Covalense Digital said Csmart Agentic BSS can support activities ranging from partner onboarding and approval to billing and settlement within a single environment.
The system also provides assisted operations for partners that require additional guidance.
A contract-aware enquiry capability is designed to allow commercial questions to be answered using the governing contract, service-level agreement (SLA) or rate card.
For example, partners can query issues involving overage rates, committed availability, service credits or notice periods. The platform can also check invoice lines against the applicable rate card.
This is intended to reduce the need for partners to navigate multiple documents or contact operator support teams for routine commercial information.
Platform Draws on Global Satellite Operator Experience
Covalense Digital said the latest Csmart enhancement draws on its work with a global satellite communications operator through a multi-year, phased programme.
The programme began with point solutions and subsequently moved towards a broader platform approach built on Csmart Digital BSS.
According to the company, the deployment has delivered unified provisioning, consolidated subscription and account hierarchies, streamlined partner integration, monetisation of IoT services and redesigned wholesale billing capabilities.
A broader business support systems transformation remains under way, Covalense Digital said.
TM Forum ODA-Aligned and API-Driven
Csmart Agentic BSS remains aligned with the TM Forum Open Digital Architecture (ODA) and uses an API-driven approach.
Covalense Digital said Csmart Satellite Solution is available through SaaS, cloud and on-premises deployment models, giving satellite operators flexibility in how they deploy the platform.
The combination of APIs, cloud deployment and agentic AI reflects the growing need for satellite operators to integrate commercial, operational and network systems as satellite services become more complex.
Covalense: Satellite Operators Need More Operational Capacity
Santhosh Lagishetty, Vice President, Product Engineering at Covalense Digital, said the challenge for satellite operators is increasingly about how efficiently they can respond to growing demand.
“Satellite operators are not short of demand — they are short of the operational headroom to serve it,” he said.
According to Lagishetty, the latest release was designed around the partner rather than the underlying process, with configuration validation before provisioning, answers available at the point where questions are raised and AI agents working alongside partners instead of forcing them through traditional request queues.
Agentic AI Could Reshape Satellite BSS
The Csmart Agentic BSS development reflects a broader shift in the satellite communications industry towards software-defined, partner-led and increasingly automated business operations.
As LEO constellations, NTN services, satellite IoT and hybrid connectivity models expand, satellite operators face the challenge of managing increasingly diverse products, partners and transactions.
For Covalense Digital, the next stage of satellite BSS is therefore not simply about automating back-office processes. It is about giving partners greater autonomy while using AI to connect service design, provisioning, support and monetisation.
If that model gains traction, the satellite business support system could increasingly become an intelligent commercial operating layer linking operators, partners and end customers across the expanding non-terrestrial connectivity ecosystem.
